THANKS FOR IDENTIFICATION OF FARMALL

Hello;

There are so many of you to THANK, I truly appreciate your information that you have so kindly furnished to me with identifying my newly bought Farmall. The word "thanks" don't seem enough but that's the best I can think of. So, I have switched the gas and water caps as suggested, you were "right on the money". To Old, there are no numbers or plates behind the seat(of which looks original). The last set of numbers that I can locate are the numbers 47684 D, located on the end of the steering middle post like, on the front. I guess now it's time to come up with some manuals. IF ALL OF YOU DON'T MIND I MAY BE CALLING UPON YOU IN THE FUTURE TO HELP ME AS I DIVE INTO THIS PROJECT.
Oh, one last shot, on the oil pan there are two (side by side) small levers to open and shut??

Again,
Thanks,
walt

Those are how you check your oil level guy. You will look around and find out you have no dip stick on your engine. You want oil to just dribble out of the top one. If you try the bottom one and get no oil, DON"T even start the engine till you put oil in her. Jeffcat

Hello John;
From what I have gleaned, it is a Farmall A, possibly with a Farmall C engine. Will check further into that. Not sure how but at least I will try.
regards,
walt

Those should be pretty much the same engine.. The set of production record/manuals I have say that. And that the only difference is that the Farmall C's bumped up the RPM a few hundred.. Other than that I am not too awful sure what the difference would be!

Lets try the ID plate one more time . In your 2nd photo , see the two big holes in the seat support bracket ? The plate is riveted INSIDE the bracket , below those holes. If you get in front of the brake pedals , and put your chin down on one of them , and look below those holes you will see the plate ....HTH !

Thanks Bruce, I'm feeling more confident that I have a Farmall A and with a few more horse power that will be a blessing. I guess I have a ton of questions concerning the how to's and what not too's. I'll just have to ask once I get started. For example. I've taken apart and fixed many 8n carburetors but the Farmall has a Zenith and that I'm not too sure about.
regards
walt

Dalex I thank you for this information, tomorrow when I get daylight I shall do what you said and get back in touch with you, I do appreciate this!
regards,
walt

Gene,
thank you for that oil pan information. Tomorrow in daylight I'll take a picture of the oil pan with the little levers and post the photo for all to see.
regards

I did not say behind the seat I said the seat brackets as in the 2 up rights that the seat is bolted to. If it was not dark I would go out and look at the BA I built from 2 Bs and an A as to which side to look on. BA has a front half of a B and the back half of an A making it a BA. So flip the seat up and get your head in there and look for the plate I told you about

Hello Old;

Come tomorrow I shall follow your instructions and post back to you what I find.
Thank you!
regards,
walt

Hello;
In addition to previous pictures and numbers already submitted as to WHAT FARMALL DO I HAVE. Old suggested that I check near the seat area. I don't find any plates or numbers in the place where they should be. Attached is photos of that area for you to look over. The first photo shows the seat. Notice the surface rust to the right on the floor board. This complete piece has been replaced with a steel plate (welded in place)
the second photo shows a view looking from the brake pedals toward the front of the seat (no tags, numbers). I believe the id tag was removed along the way when the floor, other parts were replaced. I continue to appreciate all help that you share with me!

You're still not looking in the right place for the serial tag.

That is NOT a standard seat, crudely installed, which makes things harder.

The serial tag should be on the VERTICAL bracket, the left bracket shown in your second picture.

(quoted from post at 20:10:57 03/15/15) that's an old oil pan or the "levers" were added later

Not sure what is meant by "levers" but Farmall tractors had the two-petcock system of oil level checking until the late 1950's.

If the "levers" are diamond shaped knobs, there is nothing unusual about them.

Let me illustrate what old was saying. MOST A's&B's have the tag here on the seat bracket., Note side of seat with shifter and PTO lever in background.

This is what the tag should look like or there abouts

Yours might be below the the seat modification, or removed to place the seat. That is if it was there

Some of the older ones have the tag on the tray under the pedals such as the one here.

Hope this helps

Hello Cory;

Thank you for the photos showing where the identification tag should be. I have checked, double checked, then enlisted help to check some more. I'm afraid that my tag was removed by the novice who worked on the seat area in the past.
Going by your, OLD's and the others who supplied information there is no way I could miss that tag. It just "ain't" there.
best regards and thanks,
walt
