Very cool ! I have to get my camera by my side soonest. It is the start of mating season here for the Eagles and I live on the borderline of 2 nest sites. So, the guy from the west challenges the guy from the east and they spiral upwards until almost out of site. The really cool part is they spend a lot of posturing time at my eye level (at 'puter height - 220') Will get some pics, soonest.

While not as spectacular as in-flight pictures, these are two links to live cameras mounted over eagle nests in Minnesota. I hope the links work, I'm not too sure how to post a link.

If you look at the ground you can get an idea how much the nest sways in the wind.

links are not live but here's the work around for us reading your post: go to the right side of the link & left-click & drag pointer left til whole line turns blue. Then click & drag the blue link into the search block & release. It will automatically go to the site you just turned blue & drug to the search box. At least, that works for Windows 8.1. Your mileage may vary.

Funny you mention that at this time. Yesterday afternoon I was sitting on my deck, relaxing with the dogs and all of a sudden they both jumped up and started barking. I looked up in time to see a bald eagle rise up from my little goldfish pond with one of my 8 year old goldfish. He was not 20 feet from me. He must of come in over the house. I suspect he was as startled by me and the dogs as we were by him, as he dropped the fish and went and perched about 40 ft up in a maple at the other end of the yard. Never been that close to a bald eagle before. Very neat. Goldfish died, though.

we used to have a birdfeeder next to our 3 story old farmhouse & hawks would check out the bird activity from a long view while soaring next to the ridgeline just above the trees. If the feeder was thick with birds the hawks kept soaring until they were out of sightline behind the house, then semi-circle back & come in over the house & drop like a rock amongst the surprised birds. Sudden & surprising as the attack was, I never saw them get a bird. Whenever I looked out & saw no birds I knew the hawk had just been there.

I have been watching the Decorah eagle for about 10 days. I guess that I miss all the good stuff. She just sets there and on ocasion, stands and rearanges the eggs and settles back down.

I saw them about 1978 with Steve Miller and somebody else. It was their Hotel California tour. It was great.

Now, as far as birds go, we don't have eagles by me in northern Indiana up on the Michigan border. We have osprey that look at whole lot like them and are as big as them, but as far as I know osprey only eat fish, including pike. I've never seen them go after anything else.
