John Deere 350 crawler loader

would the 12 volt starter on my 350 3 cylinder engine be able to handle 24 volt (2 12 volt in series with out damaging starter with 12 volt to the solenoid.I am hoping that the extra voltage will turn over the engine easier to free it up as it has been sitting for few years.
thanks don

I've never tried operating a 12 volt starter on 24 volts but I think you'll see SMOKE coming out of starter. Have you utilized the hyd pump disconnect mechanism?

Maybe I'm wrong here and I'm sure someone will let me know, but I've never had much luck with most of the remedies that I hear all the time. Yes they will sooner or later get the rings unstuck so the engine can be turned over, or in the case of applying 24 volts to the starter, probably break the rings so it will roll over (or let the smoke out of the starter). Why not save yourself the price of a new starter, bite the bullet (your probably gonna have to sooner or later to get it running right) and remove the head and oil pan and rebuild the engine. Or you could buy another engine for it. My emails open, I have the manual for a 350. Keith

24 volts is awful nasty !!!!
I've seen it fry lots of things. If you try it I bet you will surly fry your starter. But then it will get the rebuild it likely needs now anyhow. Good chance that's why it turns slow.

Fill the blanks. Gas or diesel??? Are you saying the engine is locked up?? What have to put in the cylinders to try to free it up if locked up?? If gas fill the cylinders with ATF and walk away for a week. Put the plugs back in to keep dirt etc out. Then after a week pull the plugs and try short fast taps on the starter. If it locked up from sitting this is likely to free it up. y the way 24 volts on a 12 volt starter can fry one pretty fast

That can be risky, bending a push rod or something worse, perhaps some rocking motion or going each way a little, see if there is any progress if after you can get some penetrant into the cylinders and its soaked through.
