I've mentioned before on this forum that our daughter, Amy, moved from Falls Church, VA to La Vista, NE last summer. (La Vista is a suburb southwest of Omaha). She was a paralegal with a real estate title company in McLean, VA and took a position as Title Officer with a similar company in southwest Omaha. She's in a far, far better situation as a result of the move.

The move was precipitated by a female partner in the company in McLean creating a hostile work environment by slamming doors, yelling, cussing, etc. Amy has kept in touch with several of her former co-workers in McLean, and several other employees have departed since she did.

Amy called this evening and said she had just learned that the receptionist in McLean had given notice that she was leaving. The company hired another receptionist as a replacement. She lasted 30 minutes and walked out.

reminds me of the time I taught high school biology & the administration decided my credentials of the last 5 years were not in compliance with requirements so they transfer me to another school. What they really did was put a school board members hot shot straight A biology major nephew in my place. He left before the students came for the first day! Some people just aren't suited for some jobs. At least he realized it & didn't make himself & everybody else miserable.

I am amazed by the fact that some companies and firms are able to stay solvent because of certain partners or management. My daughter reported a similar situation where she works a few months ago. She works for company that makes springs for the furniture industry. She often makes remarks like,"They hired me to figure out the problem when something goes wrong, and then they won't listen when I offer a solution!" In other words, they are kinda dense. But she told of the receptionist leaving and the new hire only lasted about a week.

When I was doing consulting work, I was hired a couple of times to "Find out what the problems are with the company". Didn't take long for me to discover that the "problem" was the owner/manager.

When I reported my findings to the owner/manager, they quickly paid me off and my job was done. Nothing changed with the company until they folded and went out of business.

A few years ago local CaseIH dealer wanted me to come to work for them to replace a parts person that had left. So after being self emplyed mechanic for several years prior I thought that this would be a good chance to do something different but basicaly in the same field. I went to work in Oct.{busy, busy, busy time} not knowing anything about computer work then,I quit after 3 days. I fiqured that I was hired to do a job and I was not fulfilling that so I went back to my old self employment, much happier.

After kicking around Corporate America for some 40 years, it never ceases to amaze and amuse me how some companies thrive in spite of the management, not because of it.
