I need some input on something I am trying to do here in Western KS . I have enough equipment to make up a complete blacksmith shop and then some.In January I put an ad on Nex Tech classifieds offering any museum within 100 miles the eq if they would build a building , maybe 30 by 30 that resembles an old blacksmith shop, I also made the offer in person and by email and by phone, not one place was interested, does anyone have an opinion on this? thanks ,Gary

Make that offer to a historical "village" not just to museums. The closest one has volunteers that actually run it for groups or shows(or more). The other village that I can think of does that to, I think.

here is the tractor show coming up at the local one if anyone is wondering.

Kansas and Nebraska share a lack of population which means there is not much money for any type of living history event. I believe there is a tractor show at Bird City Kansas, where there would be smithing. How about Old Town Burlington Colorado, I know there is a shop there. Back east there is the population and money to pay re-enactors, but out here it is volunteering and bring your own stuff.

There was a place in my state called Waterloo Village . They had a blacksmith shop with working smith. Grist Mill [ mostly a lecture ] Wool production . Pharmacy . A whole 1800s village . Then suddenly the state didn't have enough money for this and shut it down. It is really a shame to lose such a great piece of history. Fat gov running the state wants to be prez . Haha.My opinion is people are being stupid when they don't care about history.

Gosh dang, I missed this yesterday. Getting kind of tired of it and deciding to take it easy? That's quite a profession, quite a skill. I'm not one, but would like to on the side. I've been to farm and other auctions that have smithing equipment, and that's pretty expensive stuff, built up over time. No one in the family interested in taking it up under your supervision? Sorry to hear it if thats the case. Good luck. Much good luck.

Fort Larned has a blacksmith shop run by volunteers but I have no idea what equipment they might need. You could check with George Elmore, the chief ranger there.
