R1 tires on front of lawn tractors

Just curious, I see lots of pics in tractor forums where people have put R1 (ag style tread) tires on the front wheels of their riding mower/tractors--like a 70's cub cadet.

Why? Again I'm just curious--I mean whatever floats their boat is just peachy but...

Is it because they like the looks?
Does it help with steering authority?

IMHO if it's not 4wd then I think ribbed steering tires look best--and they are available even in those small sizes.

Ours is 4x4 but if you are on a steep side slope I think they might help the front not to slide.

On my old Roper 16t i had 2 reasons.
#1 They were cheap since i also bought R1 tires back tires, only 30 bucks more than the turf tires.
#2 i find much better traction with the front mounted snowblower in terms of steering.

Installed tread on backwards will help the front climb out of ruts in soft dirt and mud. Before 4wd combines farmers used to install ag tread tires backward on rear (steering) wheels so they would tend to float in soft, wet, muddy fields.

I have right at a 25 degree slope on the back side of my pond. Have tried for years to get a decent mower to do the job including tractor mounted mowers.

Finally got something that works......ATV snow stud tires on all 4 with a conventional riding mower. Mower is light enough to get around and the studs on the front grip the grass and allow me to turn uphill and make the turn rather than slide sideways and wind up down hill.

I liked them so well I put a set on the rear of a ZT and now I can mow the thing with it too.

That's why I did it. Earlier I tried R1's on the rear of a ZT but just slid sideways. No better than turf for me.
