2000 GMC 3500 4x4...looking to purchace

Stopped to check out this truck tonight. 2000 GMC 3500 4x4 regular cab. 5.7 automatic. Truck has 174,000. 50,000 on the motor I'm told...he has no documentation on that though. Runs great. New tires. SL model. No power windows or locks. Cloth seat in perfect shape. Rubber floor mat. AC that works great. Body is straight. Bed has been replaced and repainted. Drivers door has been repainted and cab corners and rockers redone. Not a high quality job but looks great from the road.
Asking $7,100. From what little research I've done theres no way it's worth that. What do you guys think? [/quote]

awfully small motor for that big of a truck. Prolly had a 6.0 originally. Might bring $3500- $4000 at auction.

Hi
it might be a "1 careful lady owner", 99 idiots after her truck!.
sounds to me like it might have a history, involving a few dents and bad experiences you don't want to be part of at any price.
I would probably question why it had a motor swap to with that lower miles on. i have a 97 5.7 with 156.000 miles on, the trans won't reverse in - 20oc and body's junk (Rusted out), but the motors fine.
Regards Robert

It was the last year of the old "90's" style trucks for 3500, it had the vortec engines as options (5.7 or 7.4), or the 6.5 turdbo diesel, still a small engine though.

No way that truck should be that at that price, maybe if it was super low miles, garage kept and perfect but still not worth it. Without seeing it, driving it etc I would say its at least half what he is asking. Either super low-ball him or keep looking.

I have to agree it is to high. I bought my 2003 Chevy 2500HD for $13 and change about 3 years or so back. It only had 58K miles.

8.1L engine, Allison 5 speed tranny, 4x4 with locking read diff, limited slip front, class 5 tow package and a goose-neck hitch with new tires all the way around.

So let me think about this one... 3 years newer, larger engine, 1/3 the miles and less than twice the cost and this thing should last me another 5-6 years.... Yup think that one it to high.

Not trying to be a smarty here as price does depend on your area. Gassers are cheaper here in MO than Diesels (those run to high used imho.

I agree with JD Seller.... We see/hear a lot of that truck come through the local Chevy Dealer (where my dad works) and when THEY sell them they aren't even that much!

$7100 isn't just too much, it's insane.

I bought my 2002 Chevy 3500, 8.1L, Allison, 4x4, locking diff, etc. with 32,000 on it for $12,500. FIVE years ago now. The banker thought I was nuts paying that much for it then, even though it was below book value.

Just dropped another $120 on it for u-joints last week though. I only put about 2500 miles on it a year. Sitting is worse than driving it, but it only gets 8 miles per gallon.

"cloth seat in perfect shape" ?? at 174000? Check the seat mounting bolts for wrench evidence. Sounds like a classic "fix er up and flip her" deal. Run!

I'd say it's high. Maybe, with about half those miles. Last
month I bought an 01 with 8.1 and snowplow with 100k and full
power for 10k and probably paid too much. I really wanted a
ready to go plow truck though and the engine/trans combo is
bulletproof for me. This is #5 8.1/Alison and never had a lick
of problems.

A five year old vehicle is old, why look at a fifteen year old vehicle on it's way to the salvage yard?

I have the same truck I bought new. Has 90000 miles on it now (just used for farm stuff). Usual rot/rust issues. Good engine, transmission was problematic when new because of a shift control issue. GM 'fixed' it but never has been quite right and now is starting to give shifting trouble. I'd walk even if it was half that.

Your prices are 25% lower than what dealers want here. Anything sold new 'here' that gets over about 7 years old starts to rot from road salt. I might have to travel to get a good used one. No way am I able to shell out $40000 for new one.
