Detent spring holes on IH B414

I have stripped the selector forks out of the transmission cover case and discovered that the holes for the springs appeared to be rather worn. Is this a problem because I am battling to line up the holes on the transmission cover case when I have to bolt it back onto the gearbox? This is what lead me to strip out the selector forks in the first place in order to see what could be causing the forks not to line up above the gears when in neutral.

You have about 2 choices. One try drilling out the holes slightly and use bigger balls or to or replace the cover. It could be possible to maybe have a sleeve made and then bore it out enough to insert the sleeve with locktite. This would have to be a press fit.

Thanks, do you think this could be effecting the alignment of my selector forks or would this just result in there being some play on the gear stick?

NO way that is going to cause you any noticeable problem. All that happens is the spring holds the ball up in a notch and it will certainly function and work as it is suppose to. I still think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill but again I am not there. Many times I have had to take a phillips screw drive and drop in a hole on each side and hold a little pressure to start the first two bolts. You could not get within a bolt close IF you had a fork on the slide backwards or some serious problem. Were the slide gears off the main shaft, Could you have a gear backwards, I doubt it.
