Can't believe that happened

I am sure I am not the only one who had something bad happen, and just couldn't believe it. I bought my 96 Dodge 3500 dually about 8 years ago. On the way home a rear tire blew apart, and ripped the fiberglass dually fender apart. Another time I bought a used Buick Regal. On way home the transmission went out. Driving my 65 VW and a front tire came off. That was my fault. What are your hard luck stories? Stan

I was in a camp ground 10 miles from home and had a flat on the trailer. An air tank took care of that, but I pealed the tread from a front tire on the truck TWO miles after leaving the state park.

A few years ago, a friend bought a used dually. Salesman sent the detail kid to run it through the car wash while he paid for it.

The kid ripped one of the fiberglass fenders off in the process!

The guy needed his new purchase right away, to pull a cattle trailer , but it spent a week or two in the dealer's bodyshop getting that fixed.

Back in the 90's, I bought a used 1991 Suburban with high miles, no warranty.

After a hundred miles, the tranny failed. Just for kicks, I called the dealer, and they offered to do a basic fix if I got it towed back to them, which was MORE than I would have expected.

Instead, I used my wholesale parts account at the GM dealership in the town near where it failed, and bought a GM re-man and had a shop there install it.

We put a TON of more miles on that vehicle, with just some basic repairs... alternator, radiator, and waterpump, etc..

I sold it to a friend who used it for a work truck for a long time, finally replacing the fuel pump, and the alternator, again, and it was still getting around when he traded it off. I've often wondered how much farther that engine went!

I can relate to the transmission going out on the way home. I had it happen on a Ford Taurus.
I bought a 3010 Deere and it spun a rod bearing a week after I bought it. The injector pump went bad about ten days after I got it back together from having the crank ground.

My grandfather leased a td8 for a couple summers. Dad leased it for a couple years after that. Didn't run 2 hours after the papers were signed to buy it and the cam broke. Cummins ended up giving one to him after 2 arrived broken. They put someone on a plane with it and rented a car to drive it directly to the dealer.

At an Auction one time I bid off a 792 JD excavator on a drive by auction. It through a rod through the side of the block before They could get it parked.

I borrowed a tandem truck from work to hauled a load of gravel home one time. On the return trip bringing the truck back the front tire blew out, the face of the tire peeled off but not completely so when it came around it ripped the fiberglass fender off the hood shredding it and pushed the bottom of the cab up into the passenger door, it was a mess. Of course I thought I'd be fired, I'd only worked there a little over a month. Monday morning when the owner came in I explained what happened and all he said was he was glad I didn't get hurt and this was why they carry insurance.

This was back about 84. Bought a MH 72 combine from farmer, fall he had a oil line rusted out. Bought a newer larger machine to finnish his harvest. He repaired the 72 and thought it was good for use. Got about 2 mile down the road, rod through side of block, went back to get help to get it off the small one lane hilly road, not knowing what I was going to do, he pulled it back home and handed me the check back with apoligy. Think it went direct to scrap. Then I bough a 63 model Deere 45 about 35 mile from home, got to about 12 mile from home, stoped dead. Starting to rain heavy, got OK from farm to pull it in till we could get back for it, pulled it the last 12 mile home and trying to figure out why it had stoped. Found the power wire to coil had droped off broken from vibration I guess, stripped insulation and hooked back up and used for several years like that.

Bought a 1995 350 Van from a Ford dealer, had 18000 miles on it. Warranty was 36,o 000. We wre on a trip to SC and returned to FL. The trasmission started to jerk. Got to Ford dealer with 36032 miles on truck and fought for warranty service. No Dice 800 bucks for a torque converter. We drove that truck pulling a travel trailer and a year later blew the transmission in SC. Went to Ford dealer and bought a reman (2000) from them with a year warranty. 400 miles up the road started jumping and bucking. in Murphy NC King Ford, took it in. Handed them the Ford Warranty and they said, fine. Take it back where you got the warranty and have them repair it After many calls and lots of days and anguish, and finding out Saluda Ford put the wrong transmissio in it) the Ford Rep came to oversee the repair which took 3 weeks for 3 hours of labor. Cost almost 100 $ in non warranty stuff. Hooked up trailer and left for Ohio, got 200 miles down I 75 on Jellicoe Mountain and blew transmission again. coasted into Williamsburg KY with Ford dealer . Another new transmission and the mech showed me that the cooling line was the orginal and was plugged solid(still under the original warranty) All this was within a 10 week period Tat one lasted almost 80000 and went again so I put in a Jasper . No more problems

I picked a friend up to go to a sale several winters ago. He ended up buying a MM G1000 diesel, Good lookin tractor. Anyway after he bought it he got on to take it for a ride to check it out. I'll bet he didn't go 40 feet and it threw 2 rods, One went out the side and of the block and second went out the oil pan. Black oil poured out on the snow and ice and the sale stopped. Of course ever body was standing around gocking at what had just happened pointing at my buddy. After some arguing with the auctioneer he was told it was sold "ware is as is" and you own it. He was mad. We left and I got 5 miles down the road and the transmission in my truck went out. Then I was mad! Should have stayed in bed! Bandit

Was in the process of buying a '97 GMC 3/4-ton work van (in '99) I was sitting in the dealers office, about to sign papers when a delivery truck sideswiped a vehicle (in the street out front) and ran into the lot, broadsiding the van, totaling it. So much for THAT deal.

Dealer just sold it to the insurance company instead of me. I bought a new van from a different dealer 2 days later.

Neighbor had some repairs done at a local Ford car dealer. Got hit on the way home, totaled th3e car. Went back to the dealer and bought a new one. Another accident on the way home....totalled that one as well. Next car made it home.

One labor day, a guy driving a 3/4 pickup rear ended and Olds and shoved the olds into the back of my T-bird. Body shop took a month to repair the damage. In January I eased the T-bird out far enough to see past the snowbank; woman driver could have steered around me but she just drove right into the front side of the T-bird - another month in the body shop.

Those VW's. I'm not sure why I was (and still am) so addicted to them - I still have four that I drive. I rebuilt the engine in my 1970 VW bus when I was in college. I drove it around town (I did it in my folks garage) for a few days to make sure everything was good. I got on the highway for the two hour trip back home and got about 45 miles before I overheated the engine enough to melt the main bearings. At the time it cost $700 to redo one completely and do it well. I had just flushed that down the drain. Apparently static timing those engines can only get you so close. A timing light was next on the supply list.

I bought I used JD 750 no till drill a couple of years ago. The seller seemed like a real nice guy. Apparently he was a weakling, though. I hooked onto it for the first time to plant milo and every round I went another guage wheel fell off of the thing. After the third one I stopped and tightened them all. LOTS of them would have fallen off sooner rather than later.

June 8, 1986.
Picked up My first brand new truck.
cute little 1986 Ford Ranger, extended cab,
4wheel drive.
Stopped on highway to make a left turn and noticed a van pulling a travel trailer pulling onto the highway next to Me.
Looked into the mirror in time to see the Ford emblem on the grill of the semi that rear ended Me!
24 miles on the dial.
Made the first three payments and didn't have the truck back yet.

Bummer.

The owner of the store up on the highway bought a brand knew GMC pickup. Brought it home with 12 miles on it and parked in front yard. Went inside to get the family to come look at it and when the walk outside it was gone. After looking for it they out a Coca Cola truck lost control coming down the hill and hit it both going into his pasture and totaling it out

I had boat trailer tire blow out and take fender off going across Grand Glaize bridge at Lake of Ozarks.

bought new 73 chev 3/4 ton 12k warranty Drove 11980 miles before transmission acted up.drove 3 miles back to phone, called dealer. He sent tow truck, hooked to rear to keep odometer still. Gm rep said closes one he had ever worked with. Got new transmission installed under warranty.

Bought a farm grain truck, mechanic had seen it and thought it was good, friend knew the seller and was a good truck, took me to look at it. With all that review, I bought it, driving home it seemed no power, hum.

Later mechanic works it over, says no compression in 2 cylinders, too expensive to rebuild, etc.

Sold it for scrap a couple years later. Not worth getting worked up on a friend and on the good local mechanic, but still not totally sure who took me on that, seemed a community effort!

A kid my cousin went to HS with had a late 60's Corvette. The thing was totalled when a dump truck ran over it in a parking lot. The isurance company bought him a replacement Vette. A year or so later (would have been 1978-79), there was a hail storm which had softball and bigger sized hail stones. We were at my uncles house when it hit. Uncles 1872 Buick "Land Yacht" was parked in the open, the Vette was beside it, next to a tree. The hail demolished the Corvette, and the buick suffered a couple small dents and the loss of it's hood ornament. They totalled the vette, and - again - bought him another. Then came the June 3rd, 1980 tornados - Grand Island, Nebraska got hit with 7 inside the city limits - HEAVY damage to a lot of the city (5 killed). The guy was out in the worst part of the storm, so decided to duck into a car wash. You guessed it - the car wash - and the vette - were destroyed.....Last I knew he drove a Plymouth after that.

I've had a few,but none as bad as some of the others' below. I've been rear ended about 6x-the 2nd one totaled my '68 mustang that I only had for 6 monthes, and gave me a neck problem that I still have(1973). Bought a new '85 Mustang GT and got rear ended 2x with the temporary tags on it-minor damage though. More recently we had a '99 Monte Carlo that we tried to keep nice-hit a deer-got back from bodyshop on Friday, hit another on Monday-back to bodyshop ! Later hit a deer and totaled it. Next used car has dents on all 4 corners and never has any close calls with deer. It's like I can't have a nice car without scrapes or dents !The deer only jump out in front of my nice vehicles. took my dodge 3/4 ton with v10 to get tranny work had 150000 on unit but never came back the shop burnt to the ground. it was still on hoist in air it looked like horse shoe shape after fire. i sure miss that truck

At my job,if major engine work was still under warrenty we would send back to the dealer.I got a couple in just under the wire -500,000 mi !Mark

I think my sister inlaw attracts deer, got a text thismorning saying she got t boned by 3 deer lastnight. That makes it the 6th time in the 7 years ive known her that she has had deer collisions. I think its been 9 deer total to hit 2 different cars now.

im afraid of dodges now, over the last 35 years i have at different times owned a ;76 ramcharger, a '78 powerwagon, [ warlock edition no less]and a '94 diesel, what they have in common, all were automatics, and all 3 blew their transmissions up within a year after i sold them, now im kind of afraid to own another one

I advocate the elimination of all wild deer.We fight against terrorism, but we allow these animals to wreak havoc upon our roadways and our vehicles and innocent lives. Catch a few,put them in field with 12' high fence around it and let hunters shoot them there.Keep them off of roads.Mark

I bought in 06 a 95 chevy 3/4 ton diesel for 5 grand, i spend 2 grand on fixes and proceeded to total it on the first trip i made with it .(i had a run in(my fault) with a semi on an icy intersection).
I came out scat free but the truck was trashed,..I carried only liability ins on it.

I was driving on I-80 in Nebraska, heading for a wedding in Kentucky with my 04 Ford F-350 with the 6.0 engine. Got to exit 48 in Nebraska, when all of a sudden, had lots of black smoke coming from the exhaust and loud clattering from the engine. Got the truck towed back to the dealer where I bought it from. With only 86,000 miles on it, had to have a new long block put in it. Number one injector tip broke off and made like a ball peen hammer in the chamber. Luckily, it was still under warranty.

Nine years ago this same time of year I saw a photo ad for a '47 Minneapolis-Moline UTU. My brother and I had a few Farmalls and John Deeres, but I got the idea I'd like a "Minnie" for something a little different, talked to my younger brother about it and seeing as the Minnie was only about 75 miles away we decided to go have a look. The Minnie was pretty nice, real straight and complete, had PS and live hydraulics, wide rims and 15.5's and started right up and seemed good in every way...needed cleaning and repainting and a little TLC here and there but all in all worth the asking price and it was what we thought we wanted. Little catch, seller had promised to hold it for some guy from Canada to look at, kinda reluctant to make a deal right then. Kept talking and he said he had other tractors at another location for sale too. We went and looked at this batch and there was a JD G that looked pretty decent...(One of my favorite model JD tractors, already had a nice GW) Anyhow I offered to buy both, the Monnie and the Putt putt, and the seller took the offer. The Minnie has been fine, spent some time and money on it but no regrets at all. The G...another story, worst PoC I ever been gypped on anything...paid a good price for it in the first place and have over 6000 bucks in repairs and only God knows how many hours of work getting it "the way it should be". Yeah, it's my "pet tractor" now. Should be, I know it all too well, stem to stern. Lnng story it turns out about that G's illustrious past...worse than this tale of woe....Win Some, Lose Some, I guess......

Just had one yesterday... Ran some errands in town. Got home about 5:00 pm. Changed clothes. Grabbed a beer. Sat in my chair to relax. Phone rang... Was wife... "Honey I have 2 flat tires on my van!" Soooo put the beer back in fridge(hadn't even opened it yet). Change clothes. Load up air compressor in truck. Back to town I go. She unfortunately ran over something cause both drivers side tires were flat as can be. Had to put spare on back(air was coming back out to quick). Was able to air up front and she drove it home. SMH

Hard luck happens other places then the farm. Second hand store was closing so they had lots of clothes to get rid of.now me being a nice guy with cattle trailer volunteered to take them to st Viney so far it's going good didn't realize they had clothes in bags upstairs and it was decided to toss the bags down and I catch and toss them in. OK going good till I missed the one it hit the sidewalk and broke open . The contents was women's under clothes and did I mention it was on main street. It's hard to maintain your dignity picking up clothes on main street especially those kind

Several weeks ago wife and I went over to Rochester, Minnesota (about 1300 miles round trip) from central Michigan. It was snow and ice all the way over and back (it was the weekend of the 200 car pile up on I94 near Battle Creek, Michigan)and got back to our hometown and wife says we should stop and get some groceries as we have very little in the house. While shopping it gets dark and on the way to the house a deer runs out between oncoming traffic and I just have time enough to think-that was close-I almost hit that deer when the second one was not so lucky. About six thousand dollars damage to a Ford Expedition. Bumper, Grill, headlights, oil cooler, radiator, fan, serpentine belt and a whole lot of small trim parts. All happened in the matter of a second and a mile and a half from home. Very thankful that it was not worse. I never remember a trip where we saw so many serious accidents.

Our son and his fiancee bought a used very nice looking Harley 2 weeks ago from Harley dealer. The weather has been bad so they wouldn't let them take it without a trailer. So, they picked it up on Wed. Yesterday afternoon they drove it out to dinner about 10 miles from home. Pulled into restrauant lot, dumps oil everywhere. They trailered it back home, called dealer, they are picking it up Tue. and said it's covered.

Coming home in my 98 single cab dodge blew a front. Tire shot me across 4 lanes of traffic smacked cement guard rail insurance totaled and me 9000 $ only paid 5000$ plus 500 dollars for lost tools .

I wouldn't own a dodge automatic if you paid me to take it . They are crap in the old ones . Buddy has an auto in a 13 with over 400,000 replaced the flex plate at350 and that's it
