Farmall M valve setting

I am rebuilding this tractor. Serial #FBK81876.Engine Serial FBKM80957. I had a machine shop redo the head for the tractor. I have installed the rocker arms and shaft. Now I am trying to set the valve lash. I cannot get any clearance between the rocker end and the valve stem even with the adjusting screw turned as far out as I can. Any suggestions what I have done wrong or how to correct this? Thanks in advance.

I agree. Might have put the wrong valves in the head. The stem length was different between pure gasoline and gasoline/distillate.

The numbers on this head is 8777-DA. Can someone tell me if these are high, medium, or low compression heads, those numbers do not show in my books.

Be sure the pushrod is seated on the lifter. Be sure the cylinder is up on compression, not exhaust. The differences you provided do not exceed the adjustment range. Jim

That head number is distillate. The gasoline valves would be considerably longer than dist ones.

Low compression distillate head that used IH valves #, intake 57698D, exhaust 57699D. Did they sink the valves down in the seats or has a bunch been removed from the head surface? If they put the more common gasoline head valves in, they are longer because the combustion camber is shallower than the distillate.

Did you have the head planed??? IF you did they could have taken too much off the face.

They also could have ground the valve seats too low. That will make the value protrude too far and you will not be able to have clearance.
