While on the topic of big tractors here is another one. The Challenger 965. Maybe the worlds largest articulated 8 wheel ag tractor currently on the market. Has 620 hp V-12 diesel with 4 turbo's, 2 on each side, 1020 cubic inch engine,2300 ft-lbs torque. Was displayed at NFMS Show-Louisville this month.

She was 460,000 at the Show. That's 47,000 lbs out the door factory weight. That engine comes in 4 states of tune from 520 to 620 hp , might affect price some.

Case ih and new holland make 620hp tractors, only thing they have over the cat I'm aware of is I know the cats deranged in the first 4 gears to only 375hp I believe we're case new holland isn't, guy learned that trying to pull a tile plow by us, they bought the cat and ended up hooking there old johndeere on also to help pull because it was short of power in first four gears!

Add JD to that list. Have a JD 9620R coming in march. I am not sure about the current offerings from JD but the older 4 wheel drives like the 9020 series derated themselves in the lower gears.

Didn't know the John Deere had a 9620r, thought the 9560r was the biggest, seems like when one goes bigger they all follow.

Have heard the engine computer in older Case quadtracs derate engine hp in lower gears. Don't know about this challenger. It is new for 2015 may not be any out in the field yet. Had neighbor that did tile plowing w/ a 225 hp MFWD 4wheel dr JD with duals. He did not even throttle up very far when running. (Gear transmission) Said just needed as much weight as possible stacked, bolted on to tractor for traction. He said he had the horses to pull it.

He probably did, but put a 16-18 inch boot on for big tile and then pull it 9 plus feet and it takes a lot to pull it, usually a dozer and a 4wd tractor.

JD just introduced the new series last fall. The top two which are the 9620R and 9570R use the Cummins QSX. The fuel tank as been moved to the back and they have the option of suspension on the front axle.
