Vineyard tractors

A friend is looking to start a vineyard and needs a tractor that is narrow, with a cab and AC. Preferred size is 75 to 100 hp. of course funds are tight so he is looking at older tractors. A recent thread mentioned that the Oliver 1550 is narrow, but just how wide is it ?
Any suggestions?

If he doesent know that much about tractors he is going to fail raising a vinyard. He need a tractor that has a low profile.

It would have to be a 1550 utility to be narrow, but check dealers in west Michigan. There are a lot of used orchard tractors around.

Hi, Where are you located. I am at Oliver bc. We have a dealer here that handles new and used tractors. The company is GERARD'S EQUIP. They may have a website. Maybe try www.auctiontime.com as another source. Luck to you. Ed Will

Recent issue of FarmLife from MF shows their MF-4610 Lo-Pro Low Profile, 99 Hp, low Tier 4i emissions WITHOUT a diesel filter, super-wide fenders, low-down horizozntal exhaust, folding ROPS.

Massey Ferguson made a Massey 135 narrow for vineyards. I believe they were very popular and should be available for a reasonable price.

Lots of vineyards in eastern Washington- Zillah, Prosser, Sunnyside, Pasco, Richland, Yakima, Moxee, etc.- find some dealers there on Google and they should be able to fix him up. I had an Oliver 1550- they are by no means narrow. And I echo the questions of others- why does he need 100 HP? It would be like a bull in a china shop.

My 1550 Utility (54 hp) is just under 6 feet wide outside to outside of rear tire tread. and can be narrowed in more by moving the axel clamps. The trailer the tractor is on is 6'4" wide to the outside of the frame. Using this tractor in a vineyard the maybe a little wide for that use. Most vineyard models are very narrow like 4 to 5 feet wide at most and they are very unstable on any kind of incline. I don't believe anyone made a 75 to 100 horse vineyard tractor with a cab, Most were under 50 horse power tractors. There were a lot of Ford 2000 and 3000 and MF 135 model tractors used as narrowed vineyard tractors. They also used a lot of narrow gauge crawlers in vineyards. There are a lot of vineyards in northern Ohio up around the lake Erie and in the northern tip of PA and into New York state and a lot in the state of Missouri. So that hole area would be good to look for used vineyard equipment. Also you can buy just the narrow rear axes and front end parts to narrow a regular tractor up to use a vineyard tractor. Bandit

I found these pictures of vineyard tractors used over seas. See what I mean about being narrow. MF 140 Vineyard and a Fendet 250V vineyard tractor (hope I spelled it right). Bandit

They also use 100 hp+ ones too. Many of the sprayers need big pto hp to operate and good weight to drag them up hills.

My friend has a NH TN95 orchard model and had a Landini Rex 85 pto hp or so model, the old style. Ergonomics terrible on the older Landini's but had cab with filters and had a loader. Sold the Landini for about 16,000$ and replaced it with a conventional tractor but is finding too much damage to the orchard and is gonna get another orchard model.

My brother has a 14 acre vineyard. I believe his rows are 8 ft. apart. He has two John Deere compact tractors. I believe they are 3720's. They go nicely between the rows.
