ford knowledge?

Well I lucked up yesterday and had a fellow call me and asked me if I wanted a tractor to haul off his land. went to get it and cant determine if it is a ford 2000 or 3000. I am not familiar with fords and cant seem to find a serial tag. Weather doesn't want to co-operate to take pics. It is a two stick shift with 3 cyl gas engine. I scraped paint on the dash and found a partial shifting pattern with the numbers 4 and 5 on it and a H and L. I know the h and l is hi and lo, didn't know they made a 10 speed. As soon as I can I will try to post some pics. Can anyone tell me what to look for and help to distinguish model and year? Thanks. I think I will post on ford board also.

If you can lift up the hood over the battery tray, there is usually a silver/foil sticker under it, with a serial number and other data. A photo would be most helpful. No 10 speed unless its a select-o-speed, which this is not if it has the 2 sticks, so it could be a 6 or 8 speed, one lever is for hi & lo. You have a thousand series ford, see if that hood sheds any light and of course someone could have swapped tin on any of these, I'm not sure if these had the serial number and model number stamped anywhere, and I should know that having run our 3600 for many years.

Since it is a gift get it HOME immediately; then you have time to find out what you have. Kenny Rogers said "Never count your money while you are dealing; there will be time for the counting while the dealing is done."

went back and looked on the housing behind the starter, found one number either B10225 or 310225. the engine casting number is DONN 6015 J if that helps.

With a 8 speed transmission 1st & 5th are in the same position on the transmission. 1st through 4 are with the second stick in low and 5th through 8th are with the second stick in high.
Just so you know the second stick MUST be in the center / neutral position for the started to work. You might have to wiggle the the second stick a bit for the starter to engage.
8 speeds can be live PTO ( 2 stage clutch ) or transmission PTO ( single stage clutch ).

Everything makes sense except for the last digit. John in La has the
info you need, unless you are looking at bottom of the three
numbers. Then, that might mean that the tractor was built in
England and the last digit is an 8 not a B.
