My Daughter and SIL closed on the house/farm behind the home farm today. Their house in St. Louis sold faster than they thought it would. So they actually where able to roll their equity into the farm/house and end up with a reasonable payment.

She now says they will start on a family/kids. LOL I asked her if it took Iowa air for that to work. LOL

They where worried about not having family around St. Louis to help with kids. They will have some ready made baby sitters around here. My Mother being one of the first in line. She is enjoying being a Great Grand Mother.

I also like that there will not be a neighbor issue. They got a nice place that is private but still not too far from towns/cities for services if they need them.

The house is in real good shape as the prior owner had done a lot of updating to everything from electric to plumbing. So they just need to paint/carpet to their choice and they will be ready to move in.

That is a nice feeling when they want to be close. My daughter and SIL are moving in soon while they build a new house next door to us on the farm.

Good for all of you, JD. We owned some acreage 1/2 mile from us when our kids were in high school. They knew they had the option of buying or going somewhere else when the time came. I was going to make money on that land if they didn't want it. My son and daughter and their respective families (and dogs) are next door neighbors and it has worked out great for all as far as Grandkid sitting and dog feeding etc. People never realize how often they need each other as life throws curve-balls at them. We share equipment/tools etc so each family doesn't need to "own" everything. Sure is nice on holidays / birthdays and Grandkids school functions. It's just the way it should be. All the in-laws call us all "The Cleavers" LOL I'll take that as a compliment Good luck to all of you.

That's great, that you'll have the brood all together again. Even better that they all get along! We've got one nearby, one that hopes to get back here if an engineering job opens up, and one who's husband works at SeaTac airport, so not much hope on that one.

If they are going to have kids in the house, advise them to select only NON-allergenic carpet. Kid's bodies are too vulnerable to the chemical outgassing of usual carpet.

Having family close like that will be great,, The mention of your Mother made me smile, I lost both my parents many years ago Mom in 96 and Dad in 2001, when I see my kids and grandchildren I often feel my Mom looking at them with me, I am very sad the kids cannot see them anymore and they are not here to see the new ones born and see them growing,,, sorry for the ramble,,,, have a great day and enjoy your family all you can,

I never heard of the gassing part before...but, I bet that is why when I am around new carpeting in a closed up house etc, that I always get a bad head ache if I am there for awhile.

Headaches are the starting symptoms; mine got progressively worse with time.

Non-allergenic carpet that does not outgas is available for a couple dollars more per yard than the usual off-the-roll carpet.

Health officials wonder about the increase of resporatory problems in kids but they aren't looking at the amount of chemicals in the average home. Carpet that outgasses and all the other household cleaning chemicals that are brought into a home can damage the tender tissues in kids.

We have no carpet in our house' all wood laminate floors. Wife uses vinegar and water for cleaning; we don't buy any chemical cleaning products.
