Did anybody on here see the giant shooting star this morning at 10 till 5 in western pa! Biggest one I ever saw lite the whole sky up bright my cousin was trucking 30 miles from were i was at and he seen it! Were 75 mile from the ohio pa line on interstate 80! I have seen a lot but never that bright and big!

Last year walking out to the barn, looked down at the white gravel drive, and a saw black rock.
Very heavy, metallic, not magnetic, when I ground a corner off of it, it was silvery then over a couple of days it oxidized back to black.
I assume meteorite.

A few years ago I was out for a walk one night and over me saw one as bright as could be, almost seemed you could reach up and touch it. I even heard it. Then it fizzled out. I just stood there and said "Wow..." and though I wished I could have filmed it. But how would you ever know it was going to be there. Im glad it wasn't the last light I saw lol...

FBH44:

Take it to a Jeweler and have them test it for Silver. Pure metalic Silver when cut or as you did ground off a small portion WILL show silver, then slowly Oxidize back to black. Could be you have a natural Silver nugget.

:>)

Nah, but I saw a big one a few months ago that I was waiting for an explosion or some news from the York or Lancaster area. Brightest thing I've ever seen, at about 1130 at night. Never did hear anything else about it.....

Wife saw it on her way to work, south east Indiana. Friend saw it out pushing snow in south west Ohio.

Brian806 et al,
Local paper (From AP) had an article about the Meteor.

KITTANNING, Pa. (AP) — A meteor moving at 45,000 mph lit up the sky over western Pennsylvania.

NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office says the space rock measuring two feet in diameter and weighing roughly 500 pounds entered Earth's atmosphere above the Pittsburgh suburbs around 4:50 a.m. Tuesday. It could be seen in Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio.

NASA says cameras detected the rock at an altitude of 60 miles above Beaver Falls, northwest of Pittsburgh. The agency says it flared brighter than a full moon as it descended to an altitude of 13 miles above Kittanning, northeast of Pittsburgh.

The agency says the meteor likely came from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

NASA says meteorite fragments may be scattered on the ground east of Kittanning.

Cool Stuff.
