That is the nature of the way a carb works. Best way to help it is having that side of the engine covered so as to hold the heat in and even then it takes time to get it warmed up enough to stop the icing. Back when cars and trucks had carbs they had the heat riser off the manifold to keep the carbs from icing up.

Back in the day when cotton was hand harvested,we tied the worn out sacks to cover sides of engine from radiator to operator station. That helped with iceing and kept operator warm. It's more helpful to warm intake air than the carb.

get yourself a 5lb. coffee can - put one hole in the unopened end to fit over the muffler -- put another one in the side off the can and solder a pipe (the same size as the intake pipe) onto it connect the cans pipe to the intake pipe with a heater duct tube--now you will suck warm air off the muffler --no more freeze-ups

yap! know all about it, had a 580 case ck backhoe and I put a tin shield over the carb to deflect the cold air fron the fan .Never did check to see if I could reverse the fan like dozers, skidders etc to correct that problem . Sold the machine and bought a 580 B diesel -- never had that problem again .
