Jon, I was reading your post below in the tractor discussion
about John Deere being the best, Personally I think it's Ford,
but? Lol. You said your old truck had just under 1,000,000
miles on it was that engine ever overhauled? I thought that
was a pretty interesting fact. I also can't imagine how much a
turbo must cost for the other Cummins you sold. There over
$2000 for a ford 7.3 diesel! Lol. So far do you like the Volvo vs
the cummins?
Our town highway dept has a IH paystar 5000 form 1980, it's still in use right now! Lol

Other than one or two injectors and the turbo being bad, the engine was original yet. If I remember correctly it showed about 25,000 hours. Never burned any oil in a normal 20,000 mile oil change, but would quickly burn oil if you went beyond that, but it was always that way. This Volvo engine has been a good engine too, but I've had quite a few other problems with this truck such as starter, air dryer and such. This one gets muchbetter milage than the other, but then all the new engines with the def do. I have about 280,000 miles on this truck now. I think I had priced a reman turbo at about $2500.00 or 3,000.00.

Thanks Jon that's very intersting, one last thing, what kinda mileage do you get towing a full load? I know the town tandems have front plow and a wing on each side, and a full load of sand in the back, the driver said he thought he was at around 80000 pounds! I can't remember the mileage on them, but they burned alot of fuel in a big storm. Take care, keep safe.

Winter milage runs 7-8mpg, summer 7.5-8.5. Last I checked my since new average was about 7.7, but that might have dropped some since winter started. Wind affects my milage more than weight.
