Toyota Corolla Vibration Update

Daughter's Corolla has a vibration when cold and in gear that I am working on.

There was only about 1/16" clearance between the exhaust pipe and the cross member, I changed out the passenger motor mount, and there is now about 3/16" clearance.

I checked valve clearance today, it is at the minimum value on most of the valves, but none under minimum. The tolerance is about .004, from minimum to maximum, so I would like to shim then a couple of thousands, but do not think it is worth the trouble. I was going to put it back together, but am out of sealer. It only has a few thousand on it since changing timing belt, the sealer in the corners was hard as a rock, I am not happy about that.

I will put the valve cover back on tomorrow, once I get sealer and see how it sounds. I still want to check the timing, because it sounds a tad slow.

Gunna guess its a 1.8 are 1.6 don't worry about the valves I have never seen them ware at all... I have had the head off a few with close to 300K on the clock cleaned up the valves and put them back in... The seats are hard as ell and bout impossible to grind with a stone...

They call the corner sealant "seal packing"... You would think it would be common knowledge to remove the old packing... Its listed in the procedure to remove it...

They also have spark plug tube seals if you have any oil in the spark plug wells replace the tube seals....

A common issue it they idle high and no way to remedy it... It can be overcame by retarding the timing BUT performance will suffer...
I just deal with the high idle...

I like those cars they give little to no trouble and are great on fuel....

A friend has a madza that shook at a stop light. In neutral no shaking. It turned out to be the rubber flex pipe going from filter to intake had a crack that opened up when in gear. I removed flex pipe, used metal duct tape to make a temp repair. Well friend can't afford a new pipe and the bandaid is still working.

Go ahead Old.

The Internet is chock full of issues with the motor mount, I am checking all the other bases just to be sure.

I did that when the timing belt was replaced, used the non hardening loctite sealer. I am concerned that it is hard and brittle already. I have it already cleaned out and ready to put back on once I get more sealer for the corners.

Ya if I remember right there are 3 maybe 4 mounts. Been a long time since I pulled the engine out of my Corolla. The wish bone mount up by the radiator is the most likely one to be the problem. Also is this just with it running or is this when your driving it?? If driving you may have lost a ball or 2 in a CV joint don't ask how I know that one.
