I seen some more pictures on Facebook today of this huge plow that was being pulled by at least three large dozers. They were plowing six to seven feet deep. Why would you want to do that?

Where was this happening? In Texas there are places where they plow about 2-4 feet deep to pull the clay up into the top soil. That helps hold the dirt from blowing.

Remember seeing that...

Think it was in California.
Was hoping some one would be able to reference that item.

It's a sand plow, commonly used in the Missouri river bottom after a flood. The idea is to bring topsoil back up on top of the more recent sand left behind by the river.

Used in River bottoms nationwide. Yes, brings soil back to surface and buries the sand, which is in some places 4 or 5 feed deep!

There was something about the Big Bud 747 when it went to Florida,it was doing something like that. Seems like where they were using it,there was salt water flooding the ground every year or something, and they had to plow that salt under and pull fresh soil to the top. I'm thinking that wherever it was that they were doing that is some federally protected area now or something.

There have been several places in the world that deep plowing is done. Some times it is to plow under sand after flooding. In some cases it was used to bring up fertile soil after the soil on top was depleted of nutrients. In some areas it was done when ground was cleared form forest and the soil was too acidic and they would lime it and deep plow it to mix the soil structure.

Here a few of the pictures I found on deep plows.
