What can you tell me about a Deere 2120?

I've never heard of that model, but saw one for sale. Is it an odd duck? A variant of the 2520 but cheaper? I see they were made in Germany and Mexico. How are they for parts availability?

The JD 2120 is nothing like a JD 2520. The JD 2520 was built in the Waterloo plant with more of the JD 3020-4020 type engineering.

The JD 2120 is a Mannheim designed tractor. It would be more like the JD 2030 or JD 2630 than the JD 2520.

As for rare?? They are not. They where not sold in the US new that I know of. They where sold in Canada and Germany. Maybe Mexico too but I never saw one that was delivered new to the US. They could have been available but I never saw one in the US that did not come out of Canada.

There are four of them on Tractorhouse right now.

I saw on TractorData that it was made the same years as the 2520 and used the same engine. It appears to not have the syncro or power shift tranny, that is why I thought it might have been offered as a cheaper version.

The engine and the Green paint would be about the only parts that would be the same. LOL Not really but it is a totally different designed tractor.

IF you want a JD 2520 you just have to pony up and buy one of them. I never could figure out why they built the JD 2520 and JD 3020 at the same time. Just about the same horsepower but different tractors with very different engines. With the JD 2520 engine being better in my opinion.

My wife's grandfather had a 2520 and kept it looking like new....unfortunately the grandkids (non farmers) have it now and are abusing it somewhat.

Hi

I have had a 2120 for about 25 years, mine was built in Germany and the engine was built in France. It was pretty tired when I got it. I rebuilt the engine, hyds and clutch. I have an acerage and used it to feed horses and a general chore tractor. Once I got it in shape it has been trouble free. I have a loader and 3 ph. Very handy tractor.

Posters are correct; the 2120 is a German built tractor similar to the US Dubuque (SP?)built tractors, sold in Canada, very similar to a 2030. My Dad bought one in 1973 that I now own, has just ubder 11,000 hours. It has been a very good tractor and did all the work on our 200 acre dairy farm up until 1992 when I bought a 2955. Cavitation erosion required sleeves and pistons at 6000 hours, now use a coolant conditioner. New clutch at 8000 hour, loader tactor for the last 20 years. rebuilt hydraulic pump at 10,000 hrs. Many parts up to the 55 series utility tractors will fit. Late models have independant oil engaged PTO. Keep up the maintenance and it will serve you well.

I think that was the model some guys in my area were importing from Europe and reselling in my area in the 1970's. The Mosby brothers from Pierce County who later owned Sumner Tractor, I think. Neighbor had one, it was a good rig.

Happens when ever the Canadian dollar drops. The tracror jockies start hauling cheaper canadian equipment into the U.S.
The 2120 was a size larger chassis than the 2020. Unbreakable if the operator didn't let the antifreeze get old and the corrosion inhibitor thus expire.

The JD 2120 was sold in Britain and became one of the tractors established JD here. Their engine max RPM was 2500, far higher than equivalent Ford, MF, DB & IH engines of that era. They were fuel guzzlers!

Reliable tractors along with the later 30 Series & 40 Series made in Germany and very collectable as classic tractors.

The Spanish JD factory made their own versions.
