Help calling England

Can somebody help me out real quick with calling a phone number in England from the US?
The number starts with a +. I have a * and a # on my phone,but no +. Also,a few numbers in,there's a (0). Do I just ignore the parentheses and use 0?

If I remember right, the international code for England is 044. The Number in England would then begin with another 0, but from outside England, you ignore this. For example, my number here in England is 01427 880238, but to dial this from another country, I would dial 044 1427 880 238. I hope this makes sense, E-mail is open if you need more help. Phil

Well, that was a bust. I went to that sight and followed the instructions, but when I called,I got a message that international calling wasn't a part of my Verizon Wireless package. They gave me a number to call to include it,but I don't think I want to buy a new package just for one phone call.

If you have a smart phone you can download magicjack for free and call anywhere in the world for free using wifi, several of the the guys I work with in Saudi have been doing it for years, I never had a smart phone but I do have an IPad so I use the magicjack that costs 35 bucks a year for unlimited calls anywhere from anywhere.

Whew! That was an ordeal, but I got it. I needed to order some parts from DB Parts Limited. They said they'd take a Visa by phone or a cashiers check in British Pounds. I went to two banks and couldn't get a check made out that way,the last one said I'd probably have to go all the way to Grand Rapids to get one. The gal at the first bank said she had relatives over there and called quite often and she didn't have long distance on her home phone. She said call 01-01-811 then the number and there'd be a one time charge and a per minute charge. I tried that and it didn't work either.
I ended up calling Verizon and enabling international calling. They said there wouldn't be a monthly charge, just a per minute charge.
I called and got through.

Thats what we do. Bear in mind many of the ones you get at convenience stores etc are one time use.

There are reloadable ones also. We are currently using Penny Talk and it autoatically reloads on the credit card when needed. Course my wife uses it some so not a one time thing for us.

have you figured it out Randy??? if you have a UK number to dial you drop the zero at the start often in parentheses, the dial the international code witch from North America is 011 44 then the rest of the UK number...

if you are dialing from a mobile phone you can drop the 011 and replace it with the + sign, so it becomes +44 the the UK number minus the zero...

The zero at the start of a Uk number does the same thing as a 1 in North America, it acts as a notifier that it is a long distance number...

Yep I got it. The darndest thing about it,I've had a problem with that Verizon wireless home phone having a delay since the day we got it. I thought "this is gonna be great trying to talk to somebody in England". There was no delay whatsoever. It was like being in the same room having a conversation. After I hung up,the wife called the woman next door and said the delay was there the same as usual. Go figure. I need to route every call through England I guess.

I don't remember how we ran across her back in the mid-80's, but she was the Page 2, 3, or 5 girl in an English newspaper nicknamed "Cracker Jackie" Bowden, and within a couple of hours we had her Mum on the phone, and about a half hour after that her on the phone. She was about 18 or 20, and well worth the call. About a week later we had pictures of her up around our desks that she sent us. We were out to prove a point. If she has a phone and a name anywhere in this world, a phone guy can find her within a day.
