We got the bigest storm of the winter season here yesterday and today.
At least the weather watchers and the Gonenors of NY and NJ didn't make a big deal out of a typical winter event like they did a week ago and shut down public transit and interstate highways like then. I guess they learned that people can deal with winter without goverment intervention. NYS DOT did close a couple north/south roads here and there was a major pile up on I81 north of Syracuse, but all and all commerce and people got to their destinations, rather than being held hostage at a road closed barrier ordered by our idiot Gov. rather than DOT officials who know how to deal accordingly with road conditions.
It was reported that the two states lost several million dollars, because of poor weather forcasts and over reactive politicians.

I check the local weather on the NOAA site and they sad you folks were gonna get a oversize helping of the stuff. It'll go away........eventually.

Aw come on Larry!! The snow should all be melted by the 4th of July.
We are supposed to drop back in the deep freeze Friday with highs in single didgits over the weekend, after another round of minor snow on Thursday.
Just another week in paradise.
The wife and I have to be nowhere until Thursday afternoon, so no big push to dig out. Maybe the wind will turn around and blow it all away tomarrow, HeHe.

Make Snow Cream!

1 gallon snow
1 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 cups milk

YUM! YUM!

Being 20-25 miles north of Syracuse was glad didn't have to go to work today. We got 8-10 inches so far and plow tractor down and snowblower hasn't run in couple years now. At least we didn't get the wind. So not looking for them single digit highs Loren mentioned.

11 o'clock news just showed interstate 90 was closed for 3 hours about 30 minutes west of Syracuse
due to tractor trailer accident from weather

You near Thompsonville?

I did online work there today, would not have a clue about the weather.

Oh, man!!

Sheesh, I feel bad for all you Easterners this year. That much snow would be the pits.

We got around two feet. yesterday AM it took awhile to find a door that I could open. finally went out through the shed and was able to push the rolling door far enough to get out and shovel the others. The storms blow from the northeast and three windows on that side are two-thirds covered.

I missed that wreck by about an hour. 30 to 40 cars and trucks on top of each other. Was on my way to Potsdam. The white-outs were north around Ft. Drum when I went through. One mile north of Drum on Rt. 11, I missed a pile up by one foot. You could see the vehicle in front of you and then it would be gone. We were going slow.

We didn't get as much as you guys south of us. We have knee deep to a bit less here right now. An inch or two here and an inch or four there does ad up, however. Right here in the Lowville area the heaviest snows seems to be going on both the north and south sides of us this year. Except for Tug Hill of course. They get busted about every year. If it keeps adding up, sugaring may be almost as interesting as last year, though.

Ya know Howdy,

We've heard John and others talk about this, but it seems to me we are seeing a lot more big rigs on their side or in the ditch these days. Trucks are much safer these days than the trucks of yesteryear, too. Mayhaps these dang kids can't drive? Mayhaps these kids have to contend with a whole passle of others on the road that can't drive?

This reminds of the blizzard of 78 hear in SW Ohio. I woke up at 6 am as usual (battery alarm clock) to get ready for high school, It didn't take long to figure out the power was off and it was cool in the house. I walked to the living room and there sat dad in his chair, WTF? Dad never calls off work? He took a sip of coffee and said good your up, Get dressed we got work to do, We're snowed in the house. What? Go to the front door. I went down to the front door (bi-level house) and opened it to see the snow was over the top of the storm door (it opened out of course). Well I got dressed and it was getting light out to see it was still snowing and the wind was really blowing. We spent the whole day digging a path from the back door (at the kitchen) to the front of the house threw 8 to 10 feet of snow and the next day digging a path from the house to the road. At this point I HATE SNOW! we were off school almost 3 weeks, No electric or phone for a week and we got with all the neighbors and started digging a path big enough for an old army jeep to get threw to the main road to town. We did clear a 1 1/2 mile path by hand that week. Oh the best part of all this was for the next 3 months I got to go to school on Saturday all day to catch up on all those missed days. I still remember the Blizzard of 78 and still hate to see snow. Bandit
