Wet summer pics of northwest Iowa

Larry posts such interesting pictures of the eastern parts of the U.S. Keep them coming, I've never been east. Here are some pics of my place here in Iowa after we had a heavy rain last summer. Quite a contrast.

Looking out my back door. Hog house turned wood working shop on the left. Cattle shed turned into a truck repair shop in the distance and the little building with the brown door is where the chickens reside. The barn on the right is, well, the barn.

A little water in the distance

A lot of water. We live in what they call pothole country. A heavy rain is not our friend. I had to replant these beans but I couldn't get it done till July 9th. The re plants yielded 27 bu/acre.

Too much at one time. I got the gauge at a farm show in Memphis a year ago. We don't irrigate so it's unique for this area.

Checking the beans. I took this pic to show my dad how much the beans had grown. He was in the nursing home at the time.

And the corn, once again for my dad.

And a couple of the grandkids acting up for the camera. This one makes me smile.

Did you have water over the road or do you
ever? I was thinking you had some spots where
you got that.

From the intersection west of me we had it
under water all three ways except the road to
my place. It is quite common for the road
south to be under H2O for a couple of weeks in
the spring and I have seen the other two under,
West maybe a day and North a couple of hours.
This spring all three were under for a couple
of weeks, South through the peat was a month or
better this year.

I remember telling people not to drive the
Dodge or Chevy to our place from that
direction, make sure and use your Ford, yuk yuk
yuk!!

The road going past the south end of the farm, on the way to the threshing show, will go under and C25 will go under when the raccoon river goes out. M50 was even closed last summer which is rare. It's interesting to watch catfish swim across the road in two inches of water.
