This is the C1928 show stand at the Staffordshire County Show.

The amazing thing is that by blowing up in size the original
photographs each vehicle, tractor & implement has a sales price ticket on them. Note both agricultural & industrial tractors.

Besides British built machinery there are implements made by Oliver, Roderick Lean, Hyster & Hendon from the USA.

(quoted from post at 08:13:35 02/07/15) Wizzo, where you? Do u know uttoxeter?
Ed will

I am now living in South West Wales. We used to live on Shropshire & Staffordshire border about 1 hour SW of Uttoxeter. I know the town well.

Uttoxeter is market town in North Staffordshire County. Until the 1980's it was the manufacturing base for the World famous Bamfords farm machinery manufacturer.

To-day its the base of JCB excavators - Joe Bamford was a relation of Bamfords who started manufacturing excavators under his own name in the 1950's.

Interesting information! I've been hearing advertisements on the radio lately that state that JCB build the first backhoe/excavators in about 1953.

Joe started out on his own after WW2 building small screw tip farm trailers. Then built single arm loaders for Ferguson & Fordson tractors, progressing to normal twin arm loaders. First backhoe loaders were based on the Fordson Diesel Major tractors.

He continued to use Fordson Major skid units until Ford introduced the 4000/5000 tractor in 1965. Joe was so furious that he publicly buried one in temper and switched to building backhoes onto Leyland tractors.

Such a coincidence......just this morning I had a
crossword clue: Shropshire female? Turned out to be
ewe.
Must be a breed of sheep from there?

EWE is breeding age female sheep.

RAM or TUP is breeding age male sheep.

There are over 60 different breeds of sheep in Britain, including the Shropshire Breed.

(quoted from post at 14:02:10 02/07/15) Anyone know what kind of gang mowers those are? I'm
guessing Ransommes.

F & N Lawn Mower Co of Richmond IND - QUINTET mowers

They cost 82.50 GB Pounds which was over half the price of the golf course version tractor!

Thank you for the pictures. I love them. They are so clear!

When you listed the description of a EWE I thought about the time I was listening to the livestock markets on a Saturday morning. The man giving the markets was weekend help and knew nothing about agricultural terms. When he came to the EWE prices he called them EEWEE's. I about choked on my breakfast!
