Harvest isn't a Time to Rush..

This is a newspaper article from 1947. This was my dad's brother. My dad was 18 at the time and his brother was 23 and a twin.

They speak of the sisters and brothers in this article but they are referring to Grange members.

My dad had only 3 brothers and 1 sister.

This has haunted my dad's family all their lives. That and they never knew their sister. She was the oldest and died when she was only 3 years old. Three days before she died she told her mom (my Granny) "Mom don't you see the pretty flowers"?

Take time during harvest to be careful. You don't have to be on a tractor to get hurt. I included a picture of my dad's family. That's my dad in the back on the left then next to him is his parents. His oldest brother is in the front on the left and the twins in the front middle and right. I just wanted to share this with all of you! I hope you can read the article. My uncle backed over his 2 year old son with the grain truck before I was around. Killed him.

No one ever really talked about it, but that was a deal. Don't know how they made it through. Very near her last days, my aunt said it was tough holding their son on the way to the hospital with a caved in head.

I guess I see why it was never talked about much.

Most Farm family's are close,, very close and when a tragedy happens like this it grips the very heart of them. Every neighborhood has many stories like this, and just as many "near" misses, In our area just last week a farmer crushed the hired hand between 2 tractors as he backed in to hook a chain, and 50 miles to the East another young man was killed in a PTO , both Killed in the same early morning .
