I'm parts manager @ a New Ford Store and I've
had the enjoyment of listening to an Ole Farmer
waiting on a truck service appointment...Whom
I was visiting with until a few moment ago.

In the mean time we had the 2014 Escape that
was tow'd in. The Owner is a fowl mouthed over
educated guy that just KNEW HE SHOULDN'T Bought
this POS M/F--- Junk Ford.. He's owned for 2
Weeks & has had NOTHING BUT TROUBLE... As he
tells my long time ole farmer fella all the
problems he's had.. In the mean time he listens
& take's another chaw of his tobacco..

1St the guy Lost his KEYS, He lives in
Pittsburgh & was in Erie at the time.. What a
trip to get a second Key, so he could get home.

2nd.. He's traveling new Youngstown & the Hunk
of steel fell off a truck he was following, he
the ran over it, blew out 2 tires..

3rd (today) He stops & buys gasoline, except
he bought 3 gallons of gas & 7 gallons of water.
( We found this out as he was visiting with
my customer)

He continued to rant & rave. & My Ole customer
said you know finally said well Son, I've heard
enough from you today, You sound a lot like a
hired man my Pa usta have. Everything was always
someone else fault. But the really what the truth
is, you could screw up a Iron Ball...

I didn't hear another Peep out of this guy
Until he said thanks for getting me going.....

I had the Branch Service Manager out on a problem with a tractor. The owner started cussing the tractor and the company as soon as we came into the dealership.

He continued his harangue while we diagnosed the problem and decided what was needed to fix the problem. The Service Manager quietly told him that, if would make him happy, that we would take care of everything even though that unit was far out of warranty.

customer kept right on complaining untilService Manage told him: "I said that I'd take care of everything if it made you happy; if you aren't happy with what we are going to do I'm not going to give you anything!"

Guy shut up and never said another word.

Had a guy like that when I worked on RVs.He went to every shop in D/FW complaining. He got very nice after every shop in D/FW refused to work on anything he had.

He must be the guy that broke this Anvil with a Rubber Mallet.

In the Marine Corps we used to say, "The kind of guy who could screw up a crowbar".

Believe me, I've met a few.

When I was a Claims Adjuster working vehicle service contracts, a Service Writer I dealt with frequently told me a tale about one customer.

The fellow had a repair done on his car that would have been covered by his service contract, only his contract had a $100 deductible and the repair was only $67. Naturally, the shop was going to just charge him the $67.

The fellow insisted the repair was covered by his contract, so the shop finally charged him the $100 deductible and he went away happy.

It's mind-boggling sometimes.

It isn't wise to choose an older person to tell all your "troubles" to. Most of them have seen AND solved more problems than a dozen people in their forties. And like your old farmer friend, neither do they mind telling you to shut up.

Someone from Pittsburgh who doesn't understand it is all their fault and was complaining? I don't believe you.

I worked as a Ford Tech for a while. An older Ford tech who had been there since the Pinto was sold new used to commonly write "Loose nut behind wheel" as the official diagnosis on many work orders. Not one single time did a customer ever say a word about the diagnosis.

The kid seems to have bad luck if any, I don't know why he'd think it was any fault but his own.

It seems there is whole new generation of people that think fault and blame are more important to find than preventing or fixing the problem in the first place. I'm not trying to say they are all like that, but there is a whole bunch of them.

What kind of person you are can determine the price of goods. I watched dealers quote parts at 10% over list to people that they liked, 20% if the guy looked like he wouldn't complain, 50% or more to someone that they didn't like.

One dealer told a notarious chiseller to "get out" as soon as he came through the door. Another told a guy that his price was 10 times higher than the price he would sell that piece of used equipment to anyone else for, because he knew that guy would whine and complain about everything about the machine.

One guy had a reputation for sueing dealers, so none of the dealers wanted to sell him anything.

Sometime in the middle seventies I was dickering on a new tractor at the Deere dealer. I knew the salesman fairly well and he wasn't in the best mood that day. Finally he unloaded on me about a customer who was constantly ranting about their poor service, bad mechanics, etc. The day before I was there this customer brought in a combine that wasn't running right and he wanted it fixed NOW! when the service man got to checking things out he found an air cleaner that was plugged so tight they had to cut it out.
