What to do around Louisville with a van load of ffa member

I am taking some students to the National Farm Machinery Show again this year- all boys 16-18 years old. These kids have been working hard to finish our new pulling sled for the upcoming season and I want to reward them. We are leaving Friday morning and should be to louisville by early afternoon. Going to the show and both pulls on Saturday. Last year we went to the Kentucky horse park. Once was enough for me in the winter.

I want to find something fun for them to do in the louisville area Friday afternoon and evening. I found a bluegrass concert in Shepherdsville Friday night. I also thought it would be cool to find an antique tractor collection around there that we could check out- either private or public. Do you guys know of any around the Louisville area that we could see? I would prefer more of a private collection, or something similar.

Or, do you guys have any other ideas of things we could do Friday when we get there? I'm not locked in on either the bluegrass concert or the tractor collection. Just want these kids to have fun and relax while we're there, without spending a ton of money.

Louisville slugger museum, used to be a place called the
brown derby playhouse, dinner cruise or lunch cruise on
riverboat, watch the construction at the bridge if your coming
for the north

There is the slugger museum, a downtown underground that is pretty neat, and the big caverns are about an hour drive away.

- if you made it to Kentucky Horse Park then you
where almost to Lexington. You might want to
consider going on into Lexington and visit the
University of Kentucky, Department of
Agriculture Science. They have farms around
Lexington (IIRC, Old Frankfort Pike Road), that
are awesome and this is where the UK AG students
learn/gain their hands-on experience.

When I was down there years ago when the ffa national
convention was held there, we toured the Louisville Slugger
Museum, as other have mentioned. I highly recommend that
stop. We also toured Churchill Downs (home of the Kentucky
Derby). There used to be a ford assembly plant there, not
sure if that is still there or not though. About an hour south is
Cave City, where you could tour Mammouth Caves.

The George S Patton Museum of Armor at Ft Knox is not far away and has an impressive display pretty much every tank anybody ever made on display there and even a few prototypes.

Whoops! Wrong town. I was thinking of the Keystone Tractor Museum in Petersburgh, VA, near Richmond.

Thanks for all the good replies so far. When we went to Louisville in October for the national ffa convention, we went to Louisville slugger. That's definitely an option. I still really like the idea of finding a tractor collection that we could stop at. Anyone in the Louisville area want to let some kids poke around your stuff? We're coming from SE Ohio, taking 71 to Cincinnati, so anything along the way would work.

There is a state park across the river Falls of the Ohio with museum with movie and fossil beds along the river also Bass pro shop not to far away

the underground caverns are right in town. ( They're actually underneath the zoo). Anyway, it's a pretty good tour and the have underground zip lines that I would think teenage boys would really like.

The Church Hill tour is well worth the time. This year my wife and I are goin to the Wild Turkey distillery when we're done at the show.

I live about 20 miles south of Louisville and work there. Slugger Museum is impressive. Underground Caverns are AWESOME and would be a HUGE hit with kids that age. Kentucky Bourbon Trail is fun, but takes you quite away's from Louisville, and I question how appropriate that would be for High School age kids. Churchill Downs Museum is OK.

The Ford truck assembly plant is there. Not sure if they do tours, but when I ordered mine, they said I could watch it being built.

I saw the caverns and thought they looked awesome. A couple of students that I have don't want to zip line, but I saw they have other tours as well. I'll ask them about Louisville Slugger to get their thoughts. The Corvette museum is about 2 hours south, but I've heard its neat. I didn't know the Ford truck plant was there- that would be worth checking out, even for a Chevy guy. Thanks again for all the ideas. These kids are pumped about the trip.

If you are passing by Shelbyville, KY on I-64 you might want to stop at the Ken-Tex Barbeque for a bite. I like the the smoked brisket the best. The restaurant is right at the exit.
