Ford 861 powermaster

So I have this 861 finished but I have a fuel drip on the shut off under the tank, both tight shut and full open, doesn't look like there is a packing nut or any other way to tighten. this shut off valve seems to be bolted to bottom of tank, any ideas?? does any one know if there is a replacement unit available or a way to fix? thanks. This may seem like a stupid question but I never work on Fords and have never seen a valve like this, the sediment bulb is down on the carburetor.

TSC has them on the in stock back around the seats, I can't rember how much also it will have a new screen on it that goes inside the tank
Good luck

Assuming that it is the standard Chinese made XX1 lever type shut-off, from my experience and from plenty on the Ford forum, that shut-off is designed to leak and pretty much always does, right out of the box. You need to replace it with the older XX0 type which is screwdriver operated. They can be swapped our without tank removal with a little finagling.

They all leak because they use inferior o rings. Go to the ford forum and look in the archives for the gas tank valve repair. It is easy to make your shutoff leak proof.

If it is leaking from the o-ring between the valve and the tank use a proper sized o-ring from New Holland to repair it.

If it is leaking around the screw shut off threads rebuild yours as the new china junk valves will leak within a year or so.

The screw type valve is not made to be rebuilt but if you go to the Ford forum someone will explain to you how it can be done as I do not have time to go into it right now.

Go back in the archives and check on fuel valve repair. A new on will probably be around $40.00 and will leak again in short order. All you do is drill out the rivet to release the screw with the o ring and then replace the o ring. then tap the rivet hole for a srew which you put in with lock tight to hold the o ring screw in. I have done this on three tractors and it was easy. Now the worst I would have to buy is a 20 or 30 cent o ring.
