I have Lenovo thinkpad laptop , a few yrs old.. does not have a hdmi connection so I can connect to tv.. it has usb can I use usb to hdmi cable to connect to tv,will it work. I was told tv would not recognize a usb cable. thanks

What exactly are you trying to do? Play DVDs, videos, or show photos from your laptop on to your TV? If so, doesn't your TV have a USB port? Or a 15 pin VGA port?

See if your tv has a VGA input, most flat screens do. Most laptops have a VGA output. VGA cables are cheap.

Yes. A VGA cable will get the video portion, and you will also need an audio cord for the sound. Plug the audio cord into the headphone port on the laptop, and into the appropriate port on the TV.

(quoted from post at 09:03:37 01/19/15) We have a short HDMI dongle called a Cromecast, allows us to connect to TV wireless, no direct connection, works great! Google it!

I have a Roku streaming stick. Roku was first, and then Amazon entered the market, and then the Google chromecast came along. II am very pleased with the Roku, but WiFi is needed for any of them to work.

HDMI to DVI video cables work well, as do VGA to DVI cables. I've used both, Amazon.com sells them at low prices. I don't know if a VGA to HDMI or a USB to HDMI connection will work.

You will have to use a separate connection for audio.
