old tractor advice

several years ago my mother inherited a few old tractors from her father and has decided to sell them. My question is where would one go to get an honest estimate of what they are worth? Would it be best to go to a brand specific collector club?

To the left on this page is a link to tractor values. They may be of value, other opinions are also important as are the location, and condition. Include tire description/wear, engine stuck/running/broken, Paint/sheet metal, and hours or any operational info. Jim

I agree with what was said below. What all do you have? You can send me an email list if you like or possibly post pictures here? Then we might be able to give you a better idea.

To get the best price for your mom will require a bit of work on your part.
You will need to get some idea of what brand/model/year tractors you have.
Like a Farmall H or an Allis Chalmers C, etc.
The good folks here could help you with that if you could post some decent photos.
They can also help you determine an approximate value.
Once you have a good idea of what you have I would go to searchtempest.com and type in a specific tractory you have and set the search for say, 500 miles from your zip code.
You will see what other people are asking (thought not neccessarily selling) in your region.

thank you for the replies. We have 2 late 60s case 1030s,1 50s allis wd I believe rough, 1deere b decent with bad rear wheels, 1 partial small avery really bad and missing parts, and 2 Moline universals all rust and no paint but complete with plows I believe 1919 and 1921 not totally sure.

The two Moline universals will be the most valuable of the bunch. I have seen them in pieces bring $10K. Nice restored one are HOT items. I think there was one that hit $100K a few years ago.

The two Case 1030s would be in the $2500-3500 class if they run with fair tires.

The JD "B" is a $750-1000 item unless it is an unstyled and it would be worth just a little more.

The WD Allis is a $350-500 piece if it is rough. If it runs maybe $750.

The Avery would be just a parts machine but still could be worth $500-1000 because they are hard to find parts for.

These are just rough ranges of value. We really need to see some pictures and know if they run or not to give you better information. Also the location makes some difference on the common tractors. The Moline Universals will sell well anywhere.

Collector that died a few years ago had 2 of the Moline Universals neither in running conditiomer At his auction here in Ohio both Molines ended up going overseas. So advertise them widely.

I am sure that there is a collector tractor auction within a couple hours of you (not sure where you live) or an auctioneer service that specializes in tractors. Most of these auctioneers will (of course for a reasonable fee) haul your tractors to their facility and you can consign them on their auction. You will get a fair price for your tractors and won't have all of the hassle of having to sell them yourself. If you aren't really familiar with selling tractors yourself, it is well worth the money of not having all of the B.S. of having to deal with selling them. They will simply send you a check for the price less commission and hauling. You will probably still end up with more money than if you had people showing up trying to lowball your tractors. If you wanted, you could go to the auction on sale day just to represent your tractors. Seems like they usually bring more money if the owner is there.

(reply to post at 09:03:20 01/18/15 Thanks, I may consider that. We are in central Illinois north of Springfield a bit. No pictures as the barn lean to they are in has collapsed and bridged over them. I have some work to do to get them out.

Aumann Auctions are one of the better known auctions in
Illinois for antique tractors. I would talk to them. From
what I have seen, they run very professional auctions and
do a lot of advertising. They could also probably do a lot of
the work involved in moving them. Just Google Aumann
Auctions.

I'd be interested in seeing more on the Universals. We've been eyeing them lately, but so far haven't found the right one at the right price at the right time. We are up by the quad cities, not looking for a huge project, but if they aren't too far gone we'd be interested. Condition is everything, if they are missing parts, or have severely damaged parts, then it will make a big difference. Stuck, not stuck? Since I am interested in buying, I don't want to go throwing out prices; but there is a lot of auction history on these. Vanderbrinks, Nixon, Aumann have all sold them in the past few years.

And I'll call BS on 100k for a moline universal, even an early model B. Throwing those kind of prices out just makes it harder on everyone to make a fair deal. You may have confused one of the many other "Universals", I could see one of the "Universals" that were sold out to Rumely for the Gaspull could bring that for instance, which is a totally different beast.
