Farmall Super M hose replacement

I could use some advice on replacing the radiator hoses on a 1952 Farmall Super M. Pretty straightforward to do the two bottom hoses and it should be not problem to get the two top hoses off. Does the radiator need to be tipped forward to get the horizontal top hose back on? How is the small vertical hose replaced? Doesn't look like there's much room to work with and looks hard to make an adjustment to increase the space needed. Thanks for any advice!

If tipping the radiator forward will make it easier, by all means do it!.

Whatever you can do to avoid stressing the neck fittings on the radiator is time well spent. Also, unless the hoses are wire reinforced, split them and peel them off instead of prying and twisting.

Put a new blade in your utility knife and slit them first, might be easiest to remove the whole thermostat housing, clean good and use a little silicone or dish soap around the inside of the new hoses, don't think the radiator will go ahead far before it hits the steering pedestal.

Thanks-I am trying to avoid making a big job out of a little job. By all means, don't want to mess up the radiator but the nuts and bolts that fasten things have not been loosened in many years. Still not sure about that small vertical hose.

I think that removing the thermostat housing would make it easier to replace both upper hoses. Is there a gasket between the housing and the engine that I should be ready to replace?

I've done lots of work on my H, hoses, belts, new alternator, painting, de-rusting, new fan shroud, ermoving and replacing rad, and I see that little vertical hose all t he time, and say "Just keep sitting, there, baby, I'll leave you along, you leave me alone." Have thought about it, butuntil it leaks, I'm letting sleeping dogs lie.

The thermostat housing has to come off to replace the hose between it and the water pump.
For the upper radiator hose, as already posted just cut the thing off. Don't get the new one cut too long- just enough for the hose clamp and then an 1/8 an inch extra for each side. Wipe the inside of the new hose with WD40 or equivalent and slide it far onto the thermostat housing until it will clear the radiator inlet. Then slide it forward onto the radiator (this is the hard part). The radiator should have springs under the bolts from the bottom and will be able to wiggle some to help you out.

Thanks for all the advice. Once I have the gasket for the thermostat housing, I will take it off and replace the hoses and the gasket. Seems easy enough!

Make sure you have the right length. Soap it up and it should slide back on thermostat tube far enough to get on top radiator

I have replaced all of those hoses without removing the thermostat housing OR tipping the radiator forward. Wheel bearing grease inside the hose and smeared on the outside of the fittings makes it possible. A healthy dose of patience also helps.
