Not sure what made these but they are big, prints about 3 inches and over three feet between strides.
Any ideas?

Don't know where you are from, but where my brother lives in northern Minn. ,it would be a timber wolf. Bad news for cattle.

Given that they look a lot like dog prints, I took a look at the link to see how to tell wolf prints from dog prints with some certainty. Given the looks of the tracks in regard to how the animal was stepping, as well as the size, I'd venture a guess that the tracks are from a wolf.

Too large for any coyote track I've ever saw +
too large of a stride.... I don't have a clue
about a wolf, or where you are located? I suppose
anything is possible.. Either a LARGE dog like
a lab, or a Wolf?

I think I have heard that wolves walk more in a straight line than a dog and it puts its hind paws down in just about the same spot as the front paws and I would say that fits on the tracks you found.

This is in Virginia on the morning side of the Blue Ridge. No reports around here of wolves, but we do have coyote. From what I read online the prints are too small for a wolf, no neighbors or wild dogs around here, so it must be coyote.

That was my first thought Uncle, but cats don't walk with their claws extended. You can see nail (claw) prints in these.

I dont know much about tracking but what went by there was in a hurry Id say. The closest tracks are the front feet and the next two are the back feet. Does look like dog family though, to me.

Mmm Hmm. I recognize those tracks anywhere. Me and that guy used to be drinking buddies. Funny thing about him though. I quit drinking and he moved away. I guess now he's over by you now. If you run into him, tell him he owes me money. Word of advice though, don't harp on it. Just mention it, and maybe change the subject. He gets grumpy quick, that guy.

I'd bet someone was in the area and let their dog run out behind the car for a ways. Hard to judge but they look too big for coyote and we have big coyotes up here.
