Tire size confusion

I've can't quite get my mind straight about a tire size on some lawn and garden equipment.

I understand 23X10.5-12 tires are 23" in diameter, 10.5" wide and mounted on 12" wheels.

I understand 6-12 is a 6" wide tire mounted on a 12" wheel.

But what exactly does 4.80/4.00-8 mean?

Next is it ok to use a 3.50/4.00-8 tube in it? -- I screwed up my order.

4.80/400 s how wide a tire maybe . So what it is saying is you can sue either as for how wide but the rim is 8 inches. As for a tube well a tube can expand to fit more then one size and work

The tube will expand to fit the wider tire like Old said. The tube might split at the seams sometime later but then again maybe not.

Will the tube work? I would say it depends on the quality of the tube. If it's a good, stretchy rubber, it probably will. If it's the new Chinese plastic-feeling tube, no. It probably won't even work in the right size tire for long.

That 4.80/4.00-8 looks familiar, think it might be the size of my 66 Wheel Horse lawn ranger frt tires. there original and junk. I kind of think 4.80 = width, 4.00 = rim size and 8 = height
