Anybody had good luck with them? I am looking to buy a Kat's 1160 300 watt,to put on our air cooled deutz oil pan..the tractor holds 12 quarts of oil...the unit is about 12"x12"...says it will heat up to 3 gal...this time of year in NW ohio the glow plug just isn't enough and I get tired of running the torpeado heater for 30-40 minutes in the shop (where I keep it) every time I need the loader tractor.....guess it's worth a try right?

There is room for two....the pan is deep in the center...probably a gallon in low spot...but there is room on two sides if need be. They cost about $50.00 each.

Rotella 15w40..I know too thick for winter in Ohio..but really don't use the tractor that much in winter and it has about 9000 hrs on it...rotella is good oil for an old deutz....lol

Tried one years ago, not worth a darn, ended up sticking it under my parts washer, took forever to take the chill out of that to. Maybe a larger one would be ok.

On my Military Chevy pick-up , I got one of those silicone glue on heater for the oil pan.. I got the 100 watt one.. It does the job.. Motor starts easily in my unheated pole barn.. [ I don't heat it because I don't want the body to go away from Mr Rust ]... I used a wattage tester and it draws 110 watts.. I never had any luck with the freeze plug style heater.. A couple of leaks make me shy away from them..

pull the cover of the fan side and put a heat element in the lid not sure were to get one did that for 20 years when I worked on deutz tractors. or if your handy like a element from a stove or a water bowl

I have two like the picture. I used both on the bottom of the pan on the 961 dorF last winter and it started like summer. I have one under my loader tractor right now. I have a steel door on my shed and when the tractor starts I pull it off the pan and stick it on the door after I unplug it. If it stays in the close to 0º I will put the second one under the loader tractor. I like them because of all the tractors I use at different times. If I decide I want to use one that I normally wouldn't I can pull out a long cord and warm to oil so it will start. Works for me!

I use them on small Diesel engines on winter machines, not sure if they'd heat up the amount of oil you have or not.

Have had two of the Kats for several years, work well on our gasser Ford. This wk, both just started popping the breaker, opened 'em up & found that the heat had gotten to one of the wires & caused a short when the insulation gave way. Easy fix, so still a happy camper. BTW, you have to peel the label off to get to the screws that hold top half to the bottom, so that the case will come apart.

they work I use one outside on a cast pan gives you fast oil pressure. just think 12 to 24 hrs ahead it not going to make a difference in 20 minutes.

I use one along with a block heater for quick starts and quick oil pressure. Like others have said, don't expect it to preform miracles in 20 minutes!

I use to use em they work good overnight get the wider one if you can find it they are twice as wide as the one in the picture below

I use an Arctic Fox stick on heater on the transmission of my loader tractor. 1000 watt, takes some time, but will warm the 40 gal of oil enough to keep the hydraulics from cavitating.

No, a 300 watt heater won't make enough difference to notice. I think you need way more wattage. And to start a diesel is the top of the engine that needs to be warmed. You better keep using your torpedo heater. I've never had an air cooled diesel so I don't know what the answer is. I heat the coolant. If it's a closed shed maybe you could use an electric heater blowing warm air on the engine and left on all night?

I would think 300 watts would be pretty puny. Do they make the things in larger wattages? 1500 watts would be more like it.

Four of five of those 300W heaters on the oil pan if the tractor if parked indoors out of the wind. Along with a battery blanket and battery tender would do the trick.
