john deere 40 wiring problem

my brothers 40 quit when the 2 wires going to the back light melted. I looked at it today and all three plugs on the regulator are burnt also. i got a wiring diagram and where would the fuse be located that is coming off the Bat. terminal on the switch. Does anyone have an idea what may have caused an electrical short like this thanks

Fuse should be about top center on the dash, could be a hot with got in touch with a ground. Most times caused by insulation getting rubbed off.

Often a wire (bad insulation or pinched) getting shorted to case frame is what causes a blown fuse.

This the diagram you have???

yes that is the same diagram i have hope to check that fuse this week and it be blown that would make for an easy fix
