was watching a show about a town called Mcarthy,in Alaska,a town that was booming when a coppermine was doing good, when the mine ran out most of the people left,It was interesting, and it explained about a shooting tragedy that really did happen there,,then some more shows came on and I Realized it became another dramatic reality show Just like all the others,,,anybody watch it? The first show was interesting, the rest were stupid my 02 cents

If you're really interested in that kind of thing, search some history of the copper mines in Michigan. Real boom and bust stories of triumph and tragedy.

Anyone who watches those shows can't be too bright and the more they watch the dumber they get! I can't believe they get sponsors for those kind of shows. Even the weather channel has gotten useless!

They get sponsors for those shows because ignorance breeds ignorance, and stupid never takes a day off! What really concerns me is the fact that a lot of people obviously do watch them. They will cover some facts for the first one or two episodes in order to attract an audience, and then their imagination takes over. Larry was intelligent enough to figure that out quickly.

I have seen it. The problem is they entice you in, but eventually they have to have conflict, keep the audience in suspense over scripted or otherwise stupidity, which I just don't get anyway. The little content you may be interested in is sparse, and or heavily diluted with drama, conflict and utter nonsense. I guess if you want to see how it is in McCarthy, Alaska, you have to go there yourself. Anything you were hoping to learn or see what people are doing, is overshadowed by the producers agenda.

What was really bizarre was the loner, living up on that mountain, where he re occupied an old building, nothing wrong with how he wants to live, but the story about the bear coming up to his front steps, what he described next, that was out there. He also made statement that if the outdoor facilities were off line, he'd be more than happy to use paper plate and then discard the end result into the stove LOL !!!!..... ok, now that done it for me LOL!!! and as I sit here typing this, it cracks me up, so I suppose I got some kind of a strange laugh out of it, I just can't picture this person doing these kinds of things and not roll on the floor laughing, what a nut, a good one, but still.... 40 years of this kind of living, takes all kinds to make up our world it does LOL !!!!

Anything that says "Reality Show" is the largest pile of horse puckey/bull feathers/tortoise wings etc. Anyone who watches a "Reality Show" from start to finish needs to be in a facility for the extremely stupid/ignorant. The whole deal is a really SAD comment on the populace. This is my polite take.

I call them docu-comedies LOL! Anyone see the episode where the "farmer" travels 60 miles with his Subaru wagon to get a (10 day old?) bull calf to mate with his (6 month old) heifer? Every time the calf tries to escape they dub a cow bellering ....then at the end they say they hope to have a baby by next spring.

Reality tv rots your brain.
Mike Rowe wasn't too happy with the way Discovery
edited the last 4 episodes of Dirty Jobs, likely
part of why the show was dropped. When he went
shopping the idea around to other networks CNN of
all places was the only ones who didn't want a
script. Sounds like they gave him a lot of say on
what gets aired. But they pre-emp it for anything,
including North Korea threatening to do something to
theaters for showing a movie.

My son lives in Alaska, Yes i watch most all of the Alaska shows. My son says that that is not the way it really is.

My wife and I watch one reality show. The Waltons.
We have been to the museum and seen the house just south of Charlottesville VA. Interesting place to visit.

I find the whole premise ridiculous.

The newest residents of the town are the most vocal about keeping out "outsiders" or making any improvements to the town.

These people, who not long ago were "outsiders" themselves... Hmm? What gives them the right to say who can or can't come to the area?

More like the edge of the camera!
I was razed in Alaska and have lived in Alaska for over 50 years and 90% of that shti on TV about Alaska is just that SHTI! And that kind of hype has killed several people so far. I have a BA in Alaskan History and would have to hit the books to dig any deeper about McCarthy. But how I remember McCarthy' demise was less dramatic but I can see how the wild stories got started. In 1929 J.P. Morgen pulled his support out of the Kennecott Mines (McCarthy) and the miners up and left with wood in the stoves and plates still on the tables - a true ghost town. When the last train/boat left everybody had to be on it. Kennecott was a small dry mining township which was soon dwarfed by McCarthy which allowed alcohol.
In 1964 the big earthquake took out the road and bridges to McCarthy which connected Cordova and the road to Copper Center then on to Valdez. Gov. Walter 'Wally' Hickel attempted to rejuvenate interest in the area but political maneuvering put a nix on that plan. Recent political rumblings have purposed fixing the McCarthy Hwy.

Throw my hat in the ring too. Haven't watched any of that crap for
several years. Too much crap that you know doesn't go on in every
day life and a lot of it OSHA would have the business shut down if
they did operate that way.

By the end of the year 2016 every citizen of Alaska will have appeared in a reality show!

I did watch that . The one guy was trenching in electrical conduit and the next was filling in the trench before he got the pipe layed. They seemed like if it was the 60s they would be the burned out hippies. I pay money for this stupidity.

Naw we are too ugly they will get actors out of California you know the kind that get eaten by the wilderness. Please send more Californians our bears are hungry.

I watch some of the Alaska shows (Railroad Alaska, Edge of Alaska, Building Alaska) mostly to see some of the beautiful scenery and sometimes get a laugh or two. Some of those shots from the air are really something and it's amazing that there still is a place on this earth that is that pristine yet. Those off grid people are a little kooky but that's their choice to live that way, sometimes I think it'd be fun to live that way, but then again a lot of things look good from my recliner in my 70 degree warm and comfy living room!!

I caught a part of that show where the guy brought in a generator to power the whole town while looking for something to watch. When they showed the generator, I laughed, and changed the channel.

I don't care for the reality shows either but here are some 2010 pics of the town you are talking about. The mine is now a national historical site. We had a great trip traveling with an RV.

The only reason a could see for watching ice road
truckers was the blonde girl. But that wasn't enough
to offset the cheesy graphics showing what could
happen if 177 things went wrong in exactly the right
order at exactly the right time.
