I'm delivering load to Rand W Va tomorrow and I travel I 79 extensively and have wondered about a some fields that a planted with something that I 'm not sure what it is. It is sometmes harveasted inthe spring after the snow is gone and the frost is still in the ground(cut and baled),but this past fall alot was cut and baled stored along the fence rows. It stands about 2 1/2-3ft high and straw coloured and what appears to be a tassel or head some thing like wheat. Have never seen it being cut, always too late, field already knocked, down, any ideas?

I am on 79 quite a bit.

There have been a lot of soybeans standing over winter up in the northern counties (above slippery rock) that get combined late, and then they bale the stover.

Switchgrass. It was supposed to be used for celulosic ethanol production. Downside is that process to use it hasn't been worked out yet, except in a lab.

That is all grass planted by the Ernst seed company or companies that work for them. They are located just north of the mercer county line in Crawford county. They started planting that stuff about 5-6 yrs ago. Was a big write up in the paper at the time. It was all to be made into pellets for pellet stoves. They had invented some machine that somewhat cooked the grass then dried it and finally compessed it under huge pressure and made it into pellets that could be burnt into a normal pellet burning stove just like normal wood pellets.

John, what's your ride and keep a watch for you, not that it will do much good, CB radio is like the driver, only works when it wants to, not when it has to.
My ride is a yellow wih black stripe freight shaker and our dry boxes have blue trim, all based out of Ontario.

I'm running an IH single axle dump, all light blue new style 4700 but still has the old black cast wheels. I have no names or numbers on the truck. I like to talk to state police and it's a good ice breaker. LOL

Haven't been that high up the hill to see the switch grass. I usually go no further north than Sandy Lake.
