PTO Post hole digger gear.

I bought a tractor PTO post hole digger last fall on a auction. Just got around to putting it on a tractor and was going to see how it was going to work. Well it doesn't turn. Pulled the cover off and discovered that the small bevel gear has half the teeth striped. No brand and no tag on the digger. Just light red or faded red. Does anyone know of a place that might match up a gear. It's a 18 tooth with a 1 1/4 bore - shaft. Any info appreciated.

crap iron! Buy a new one.

You need to take the gear to a place that can get gears from places like Browning Remove the gear to get complete description of all measurements. Mite even find it on Brownings site. They would be a listing for info. Manufacterer of the digger dont count as they dont make the gears anyway and probably arent ven in business. But if theres a plate on the digger look up their site. Google is your best friend.

Take a close look at the bearings and other gear too. Likely it has some damage from the worn and broken teeth running on it. You might find a set of gears, but by the time you pay for them, install them, set the backlash, probably more in it than if you just find another PHD.

(quoted from post at 20:51:15 12/30/14) It might help if you would give us the make and model of the tractor.

What would that accomplish? The problem is with the post hole digger.

Recommendation: Salvage the PTO shaft and auger. Scrap the rest. Buy another one.

That gear is going to be tough to match up, and it'll probably cost more than you paid for the whole auger.

I have a complete gear box. If you can give me a picture and a little info, and it's the same,I can take it apart for the gear. Stan
