We have had several, and it doesn't take much to turn them on. Birds, Blowing leaf. I have put tape over the top part, and made side blinders for some. I want them to work when I walk near them.

Yes they can be sensitive. You should be able to turn the sensitivity down but you will also lose distance.

I noticed mine stays on for long periods in the summer. After standing back and thinking about it I noticed the lights attracted bugs. The bugs were attracting bats. And the bats kept tripping the sensor keeping the light on.

RKH, make sure it is mounted good and solid. I have one on the back of my garage they just mounted to the vinyl siding rather than attaching the box to a stud. It faces north toward a shed and wood pile, but when the west wind blows it shakes the sensor and lights so much it thinks something is moving around in front of it.

The ones they sell at menard, lowes, home depot are cheap junk.I probably have 10 on buildings now and none of them are working.

I too have had less than stunning results with them. Several brands, none works for very long. Got three in different failure modes right now. Yes, windy conditions will cause false triggering. Have a driveway alarm that wife made me turn off because of that. Drive is on blind side of house, and I don't like suprise visitors. One location has 4 bulbs wired to it,and even though load is below ratings, failure rate is high. Don't know that the home improvement stores units are any worse than others.

I haven't had any problems with motion detector lights. One is a heath zenith. Not sure what the other is. My current 50lb dog does not always turn them on. My old 70lb dog did every time.

Now drive way alert systems using the same motion type sensors are a different matter. Every one I've tried was useless. Leaves, birds, and some times I think ghosts set it off. Every time it goes off it sets my dog goes off--almost as bad as the door bell. When I have more cash I think I'm going to get a magnetic car alarm. I wish I could find a motion detector one that worked good.
