Tractor With A V-8 Engine

Anyone ever do a mod on an old tractor with a V-8 engine? Just curious, as I was thinking about doing this, just for show only. I saw a nice Allis-Chalmers a couple of years ago with a Chevy V-8 in it. Looked good. I do have a TO-20 that a ford engine might fit into. Your thoughts?

I haven't myself but there are many tractors that have V-8s installed for modified pulling competitions.

There's a guy up by Remus who puts flathead V8s in old Fords. Dad had an F12 with a straight 6 in it. I bought an Oliver 70 with a Chevy 6. When I hauled milk, there was a Cockshutt 40 or 50 along the route with a V8 in it.

You can do just bout anything if you have enough time, money, patience and know how. Several around here in NW Ill. It might have been my neighbors WD45 with a 350 Chevy that you saw. He is working on a WC with a V-8 right now, others have a M and a F-20 with big block Chevys in them. I even saw a JD A with a 350 Chevy in it. Just takes time, money, etc. Chris

I think it was a WD-45 that had the V8 engine in it. It looked really nice! Actually it was that tractor that got me to thinking about this.

I have a Farmall F-12 'pulling' tractor with a 2.8 V6 .And I also have a MD that is getting a GMC 305 V6. Seen several V8 tractors.Most noteably a JD G with a sideways 454 'big block'.

A guy named Funk did it way back when Ford 8ns were new. Seems like he even sold the kits so you could do it yourself. A flathead V8 in a farm tractor. Whoda thunk it.

In the late 1960s/early 1970s, I stopped to watch a neighbor make a few rounds with a Farmall M powered by a Chevy 409/425 and three bottom trailing plow.

The engine had no exhausts beyond the manifolds and no gevernor or even foot throttle - just a bailing wire throttle.

The noise was deafening but the dirt was a flyin'.

Many years ago I was following a farm trailer loaded with hay bales.. It was traveling around 40- 45 mph and quite loud exhaust.. As I passed the trailer, I noticed a healthy Farmall with 348 or 409 Chevy power.. Unmistakable valve covers....8 " Zoomie " pipes.. Man what a sight..

The conversions that are done nice and looks like it could of came from the factory like that are way cool, I could spend hours looking at one. The hack jobs that look like a refugee from a junk yard, not so much.

Over 20 Years ago There Was a 830 CASE Comfort king tractor at a Auction around PenYan NY /it was seen by a friend of mine & Looked like Case had Put it in it .Brother put a 331 Chrysler Hemi in a Oliver 70 Tractor till he Junked it & put The Hemi in his CAT D 6 Dozer ,it is still in it.

Neighbor of mine has a WD45 with two WD45 engines, hooked back to back. Not a V8, I guess a straight eight?

From our local show, 4.4 liter GM said it was only 1/2" longer then original so very little change to hood and looks.

In the early 70's I knew a family farm that had several of them. A farmall SMTA with a 455 olds engine, an 806 with a 455 olds engine, and a Massey 44 with a 413 CI flat head 6. they farmed with all of them besides doing a little pulling

Tractor pullers have been doing this since the 1960's...Heres the first blower motor pulling tractor..Its Claudie Woodworths blown 427 Chevy F-30 Farmall from Illinois..This was taken around 1971 at Bethany,MO..

He normally pulled the 7000 lb Modified class but at Bethany he weighed it down and pulled the 12,000 Open class and came in 2nd place only getting beat by a V-12 Allison..

I saw a Ford tractor at the Kinser Show in PA with the flat head V8 Ford engine. They had pictures of the tractor sitting in a wooded area
being winched out before the conversion. Hal

Thanks everyone for the great replies and pictures! What a great winter time project for the shop that could be.

Here is one with a flathead V8 that was also at our show. Hood had to be lengthened quite a bit and I think the dash was changed also. The guy with the 4.4 liter GM said he punched it and almost went over so wheelie bars may necessary.
