Universal Hobbies 1:16 scale Ford 5000 - same quality & detail as the Ertl Precision Classics models

When I left agricultural college in 1970 I worked for a huge contract farming company and the 5000's were their main tractors.

I only buy a few model tractors, ones that I drove or owned that have a special meaning in my history

It was a good model, we sold them new at that time. I remember the field behind the dealership was lush orchard grass, and we had a used 5000 in on trade or something of the sort. We cut that field and baled with it, it was open station, square fenders. Sort of an on site demo of the tractor, 535 mower conditioner and 532 baler with a thrower. Anything goes wrong, full shop and part department in walking distance LOL !

Neighbor has a 5000 that I have spent a lot of time on! Runs a Hesston PT10 like it isn't even back there... AWESOME tractor...

Unfortunately this particular tractor is known throughout the community as a killer, and yes, it has taken the life of the farmer that owned it at this place...

Accidents happen, and it was later proved that it was operator error, not the tractors fault... Still think of that day every time I see the tractor...

(quoted from post at 15:21:02 12/12/14) Sorry---i have a big problem with people using the letter X for Christ's name--just my hangup!!

As a practicing Christian I don't use X as Christ's name, I always say Christmas, but type Xmas as the "event" that Christmas has become in the mass consumerism that has taken over in our society in recent years!

Looks great!

I've had my eye on a few of the UH models in 1:16 scale. They do have amazing detail.

Ertl never made any of the Fords from the 1970's in 1:16 scale. I wish UH would make a few more of the Fords in American style. They do such a good job! It seems the UK loves Ford more than the states. Probably because of the Basildon factory that they were so popular. When Britains and Ertl came together, I thought for sure we would see more of the Ford force tractors in the stores.

I Just saw an episode of Doc Martin a few weeks ago with a 5000 in it. It always makes me smile!

We used a 7000 row crop and a 535 mower and 532 baler as our hay set-up for almost 40 years! It was a great set-up, except dad sold the thrower when he had kids.

I know wikipedia is not 100% accurate or the ultimate authority, but there are other sources on the web which indicate that using the "X" for Christ has been used for a long time and there is no disrespect implied (at least originally). My own church has the X superimposed over a P symbol on the alter.

I do agree that Christ is being removed from Christmas and it is commercialized, but we're doing that to ourselves. I don't think it is a result of people using "Xmas".

Merry Christmas to all!

UH models don't disappoint. I have a few of them and would like to convert a 5000 to a 5200 which is what I had when farming. The 5000 UH model I have has the right front weights but the wrong grill and the Precision 5000 has the right grill but the wrong weights. I would really like to see UH do Leyland models as well but I had a few of them and loved them.

John, great to hear about yours, we had those until '85 or so, we did 3-4000 bales per year, did one large field (custom) for a neighbor adjacent to us. 3 Lamco wagons is all we had. Both pieces went well for the most part, the thrower was problematic and was removed and set in the same spot until it was scrapped. Years later we used a '64 4000 with that hay equipment.

When I was a kid, we set up a display, tractors, and hay tools, at one of the oldest and well known fairs locally, I still have the giant canvas banner, ford logo and our dealer name/location. I have not as of yet, inquired about any photos that may have been taken, there is a family that has been involved with that fair, it would be really cool to see a photo of that display as I remember it. We did receive a plaque for hay equipment merchandising from Ford operations in '72, I still have that as well.

I didn't realize your family had a dealership. That is great! Did you save all the old blue oval signs?

Western/central NY seems like a Ford hot spot. I know the dealer my dad and I worked for did some new tractor transfers from quite a few dealers up there.

Ever hear of Three Rivers Equipment or Pascoe Equipment? I might have been to your place to pick something up and didn't even know it!

A good way to describe the difference. I don't care for Xmas at all, but I love Christmas.

Its interesting that tractor collecting in Britain has changed in past few years, now "the" tractors to collect are semi-modern classics from 1965 onwards. Fast road speed, cab, diesel engine & electric starting.

I recently advertised some tractor memorabilia & brochures in a tractor magazine, everyone wanted semi-modern items, none of the older stuff got a single reply.

Prices for tractor memorabilia from manufacturers & dealers, & brochures make big money.
