Our sweet old kitty died last week. We think she was just over 9 years old (middle aged for a cat)
She stopped eating and drinking, we took her to the vet and blood work. The test indicated she was in liver failure and the vet thought we might be able to turn things around with fluids and a feeding tube. She appeared to rally for a few days, but the liver failure returned.
We took her back to the Dr and arranged to have an ultrasound done. That revealed a mass in the liver/pancreas area suggestive of cancer.
The doc said that there was no way forward that didn't involve suffering.
She left this world while I held her in my arms rocking her in a rocking chair.
Hope that when my time comes I can go that gently and peacefully. We loved her like a child..

Sorry for your loss. I had a burmese tortoiseshell that died in my arms, but she was 16. Old age I guess. Best cat we ever had.

Sorry for your loss. We have a dozen or two of barn cats, and I kid about people getting too involved with their pets.... But ours just walked past me, will be a sad day when his time comes, and I've put $400 into a barn tom cat that had a messed up tail, so I know........

They can't be replaced or forgotten; but in a bit of time, another one can work its way into your heart with its new personality?

Paul

That's really sad. We have lost three cats this year. Two of our three old toms died in that miserable winter. Two kittens moved here from the shelter immediately. One of those, having been neutered and given all his shots, was most likely carried off by a coyote last week. Too darn many coyotes around here these days.

Sorry for your loss. That said if you want a new cat I have 5 kittens born the day before Thanks Giving I will be giving away. One is an odd one since it is at this time all white

Sorry for your loss. Jeff has an old all black cat that has been hit at least twice with cars, ran over several times with a Ubler feed cart, went through a barn fan at least once, and the old battle-axe is still around, still doing two batches of kittens a year, and killing every mouse, rat and critter she can get her claws on, including the rabbits raiding my garden. She's 10-12 years old now and a miseralbe old thing, but we are all going to miss her when her time comes.

I love cats and it is really tough to lose one. One of my favorite outdoor cats got a bad mouse last week and wouldn't or couldn't eat for two days, thought he wasn't going to make it. Two vet visits and six hundred dollars later he is finally eating again. Sorry to hear about your kitty.

So sorry four the loss of your best cat Cleo. I know what you are going through. I have had to put down several of my favorite cats. It's never easy, they become part of the family. After a time there is just nothing more that can be done to give them a better life. I like our dog, but I guess I am a cat person. Out there somewhere is another special cat waiting for a home. Stan

Sorry for your loss. They work their way into your heart when you are not looking, and you can't do much about it. But there are lots more waiting, when you are ready.

I appreciate the kind words. We did absolutely everything that Veterinary science offered to help her and make her comfortable.
She lived a great cat life.. warm house, good food and vet care and was loved and held all the time. Slept in my lap many evenings during TV time.
Never thought I could get that attached to a critter.
