Snapped a shot of a photo we saw... a JD dealership in Owatonna, MN in 1926.

How about those unpaved streets???

Thought it was neat and some of you may enjoy it.

Thanks very much for the photo. I didn't know anyone was taking our photo. It was a long drive but fun. Got to get the top put back on.

Many places here in Ohio still have a hitching rail even the Wal Mart in Holmes county !

Looks pretty similar to the building that the JD dealer had in Hillsboro, ND, when I was a kid. The place had wood floors and smelled of oil and new rope whenever I went inside.

I often thought that if that building ever caught fire with those oil soaked wood floors, it would be a really hot fire that would be tough to put out.

Here is a pic. of our family Case dealership in 1949. My dad moved the dealership from the farm down the road to be on US RT 20 and built the cinderblock building in 1948, when he took over owenership from my grandpa. Gramp became a Case dealer in 1932, but was a sub dealer since 1922.
Dad cleared the property in the lower left corner of the pic and built the house that I grew up in back in 1954, Prior to that we lived where my uncle now lives. For refrence, I was born in the spring of 1947.
The building is now the home to a used car dealer. Me and my wife shut down the business in the fall of 1986. We survived the merger, but at that time could not forsee us buying more land and building a whole new facility to fit the new "Corporate Image".

That's a neat photo, Loren.

Must have been a tough decision for you and your wife to "call it a day" on a generational family business.

SweetFeet, I enjoyed the photo as well as the ones that Loren the ACG and Richard G. contributed. I noticed the John Deere photo also had a sign saying "Maytag", back then that would likely have been the washing machines with a kick start gas engine.

ShadetreeRet,

Thanks. I enjoyed those other photos too.

I also noticed the Maytag and De Laval signs. I wondered if the JD shop sold them or if it was a separate business next door. Though the JD sign seems to encompass both portions of the building.

Well... I just can't fathom a kick start washing machine. BUT I do remember my grandma's electric ringer washer - got my fingers "pinched" a couple of times. (Grandma was stubborn and simply refused to buy a modern washer until about 1980!! I was in high school then.)

That's pretty neat, I spotted that Delaval sign above the office sign. Found one of them in an upstairs wall about 15 years ago when remodeling.

Sweet, thase white square tub Matag washers are in very much demand now for use. I found 4 a few years ago for my friends, one was very rough. The electric motor is taken out and scraped and a Honda 2 horse engine is installed. In average rough condition they are worth a hundred and in decent condition are a hundred and fifty and when repainted and reconditioned with the engine I think asking price is 5-700$. Those figures were about 4 year ago, haven't been able to find any since. If I could find fifty of them now I would have them all sold as soon as I could deliever them. Just about all parts are avaible new.

Wow, that seems crazy one can get new parts!

Sure wish I could be at my grandma's auction again. She and grandpa had so many antiques on their estate auction - but I was only 18 and didn't yet like "old" stuff. :(
