Hypothetical question.

Just wondered what you guys would choose and why? You get the chance to pick one of the following tractors for a couple of days fun,you can take them to the field as well as a tractor pull.

JD 820 Black Dash
MM G1000
MF 97
Case 930
International 660
MF 98
Cockshutt 570 super

Field work, which would choose and why?

Tractor pull, which would you choose and why?

Im just interested in your thoughts as I guess some of you guys have first hand experience of these models.
Bill

I'd have to go with the Massey 98 for the GM engine whine or the G1000 for the sheer brute size of it.

Take the 820. Used to plow with one back in the 70s, just awesome. Tractor pulling, go watch them on youtube and you will know the answer. And just a thrill to drive on a tractor ride.

Not sure how it would do at the pulls, as Cases are hewvy, but a 930 is one sweet bullet proof tractor. Economical to operate. 85+ hp, good hydraulics. Still a lot of them in service.

I'll have to agree with Lauren in IOWA the 820 would be a good tractor for both!....I grew up driving my grandpa's 1030 case tractors so I'd say the 930 would be a good option if there were to be a row crop category.

Bill, Even though I am IH to the Core! I will Pick The Minnie Mo G1000 out out your list. Hope it is an LP too. Got to Love that Peterbuilt Conventional Style Hood!!!! As Long as Next Week! LOL!
Later,
John A.

I'd like to give them all a whirl, but if I can only pick 1, it's gotta be the G 1000. They were quite the horse back in the day!!! Chris

Well, if I'm painting it blue, it would be the MM G1000. They just look like they could scare the ground into breaking into a seedbed.

Sure would love to hitch a moldboard up to a tractor right now. I love the smell of horsepower and dirt.

I'd have to go with the MM. I has a diesel MF97 and thought it was very cool. Didn't have a pto or 3 point so not much practical use. Used it a several tractor pulls and didn't do very well. Not much of a gear selection. But did I mention that it looked cool! Finally sold it and bought an Oliver. Can't get that one running right yet.

have to go with the 930, still have two of 'em and use one of them regularly. seems indestructible, pull 16' flex tiller, and 16' chisel plow with him. Comfort King of course. Was pulling 1466 out of mud once, lifted front up about 4 feet, when he powered out, came back down and restarted engine running backwards, for a couple seconds, blew all the oil up and out of the oil bath aircleaner.

For fieldwork I would choose the 930, I have Case and it would be sized for my equipment. For pulling for fun I would grab the JD 820, always wanted one and I love to watch them at pulls, they just lug and won't quit.

Like John, I'd pass, since they aren't blue. But since it's just for a couple days, (and I don't have to pay for any repairs, right??) I'd go with the G1000. There's no replacement for displacement!

For field work I would chose the 930CK The operator is up out of the dirt and dust with excellent 360 visability, and they had lots of power and comfort. There were Three versions of 930s over the years. Early ones were like all the other tractors listed here, low profile and operator was down in the dirt and dust. Later case introduced the Comfort King tractors, with a raised operator platform, but still a drawbar tractor only. Then came the last version of the 930 CK available in western and row crop versions.
At the pull, I would go with the Minny Moe.

While I have all Case tractors now, I would love to have a 570 Super. That is all we used to run as a kid. Doesn't take much tweaking to make them blow flames out the top!!!!

Oliver used to paint their equipment blue and put FORD decals on it all the time!

Of course, you could only buy those blue Olivers at a Ford dealer.

8)

I just don't care to follow the JD tractors, nothing wrong with them but I just don't.

The other brands you mention were not popular locally/ in my family circle, the only one I would know anything about is the 660, and actually that exact model was not common here, but would be the one I would go to.

If I could grab an Oliver version of the Cockshutt, then I'd maybe give that a whirl!

Paul

I'd go with the 97 or the G1000. If the G1000 was a row crop, I'd take it over the 97. I don't have experience with all the tractors, but in relative terms, the 930 is a cool tractor but no where near the power of the G1000. The 660 is really cool but the seating arrangement is not good. Pulling, if I want to win, I'd take the JD.

I'm down for the G1000 (especially if it is a "Vista") and JD 830 for both pullin and plowin. Would add the case if it was a 1030.

I ran a brand new G705 back in the 60's, nearly had heat stoke in it. First one that had a cab, no a/c just two blowers that didn't do much. Removed windshield to stay cooler, then cab darn near fell apart 'til we made an angle iron frame to hold it together.

The only one I'm familiar with is the 930 Case. I don't see how you can go wrong with a 930 or 1030. Simple economical and easy to work on. I traded a 4020 JD for a 1030 Case many years ago and it turned out to be one of the best trades I've made.

I'd go with the 030, but only if it's a row crop.

Pulling? Lund! Cause that where I'll during a tractor pull, in my Lund boat fishing.

Rick

I don't pull, have zero desire to. I'd go with the 930 for farm work, a late model with the 3 pt. Awesome tractor.

I could have bought one of those MM Vistas once. Impressive, huge rig. I was very tempted, but it's simply too big for my place.
