Ih farmall sickle mower

My uncle has a ih sickle mower, has one wheel on back mounts on hitch, was mounted on the back of a M farmall. Would like to know the model number as it was buried in snow, and can you still get most of the parts? He wants a $100 I was gonna restore it and put it on my brothers M.

If it has (or should have) a wood pitman stick it would have to be ready to mow at $100 IMHO. If it were one of the balanced head mowers that would be a deal. A good clear picture is the only way to know what you have.

What is it you have against bar bowers and pitman type bar mowers? There is nothing wrong with them and if I was still farming I would not be without one. Need to get one of mine fixed up from the way I got them, have 5 here now, to just mow the lane with. Only problem is I now only have one running tractor and cannot keep it tied up all summer withmower on it. Balanced head, what good is it?

Need a picture

If it is a balanced head it could be a 120. I have the owners manual for my dads first mower, bought during WWII

It is a 25-V The give away is the wooden pitman arm that drives the sickle. The newer ones did not have a pitman.

I was planing on getting it by the end of the week and then will post pictures. Was in a snow bank today and could only see sickle and pto shaft and top of hitch but I will post pictures end of week.

Big selling point for a balanced head mower is the ability to mow 90 degrees above, to 45 degrees below horizontal, without tearing the machine apart. If tried with the pitman mower, gets really noisy and hard on the sickle and drive. Like on steep ditch banks. On flat ground, it doesn"t matter much.

Leroy, I don't have anything against bar mowers. I own at least 5 of them currently...IH 100, 120, 115, Cub L-??, and a Ford 3 pt. The last two use pitmans. The first three are balanced head mowers. The mowers without a pitman are far superior. I also owned a New Idea trailer mower and two JD #5 mowers. Those three have already found new homes. The Ford is next. Then I will only have IHC mowers. Over the years I have cut a LOT of hay with bar mowers. I still use them for a lot of things...edge trimming, ditches, lanes. Lots of uses. Haybine style mower is just better for heavier hay and the thicker the hay, the more bales and the more $$$$. When the haybine goes down, the sickles back me up.

If it turns out to be a balanced head mower, snap it up at $100. Get a book and learn how to lube it right. Good mowers.

They made a fully mounted mower for the F-12. Someplace in all my manuals I have the information on it.
