What a quandary!!

Many of you have noticed I have asked questions this week about JD 7000 planters! I traveled an extra 350 miles this week looking at used units for sale. This was tying these trips into travels for my public job. These units were the closet I could find. I made the decision to purchase one, it was 130 mile each way from home. I went and picked it up Friday. While on the way home I stopped by the local FSA office. While inside an older gentleman (We will call him Mr. B) stopped at my truck and talked with my FIL. He had ridden with me. Mr. B had a set of 7000 planter he wanted to sell. He is 20 miles from my home! I agreed to go look at them. They are in a little better shape than the ones I bought. They have a spray barrel on them so I could spray as I planted.

He offered them at a great price. He stated he needed to make a payment this coming week. He dropped them to a better price when I told him I would let him know this coming Friday. I would like to make a counter offer at a lower price, but I do not want to take advantage of an 80 year old man.

Do I sell the set I have not unloaded? Do I keep them. Do I make a counter offer?

Choices, choices!!!

If the price is fair I usually just pay it and go on. I don't have to drive the price down on every deal. Remember you hope to be that old some day. If it is a fair price I would just pay it. If you both are happy when the deal/purchase is done that is all that is important.

As far as two planters. The JD 7000 units give very little trouble with just minimal maintenance. So unless your really planting a lot of acres I would just sell the planter that is in the poorest shape.

JD Seller has it right. If you want the planter and the price is fair, pay it. You'll sleep better with a clear conscience.

I should get rid of my 4 row wide, I got a 6 row narrow for two years now. Just kinda handy to take parts off the 4 row and keep planting......

Never heard a planter called a set before, kinda neat, would assume that would mean a 2 row, they didn't come that way but so many have been converted into plot planters.....

Like I said in another thrad, around here a working 7000 is worth $800 a row these days. Buy it and be happy.

In your choices of what to do you didn't even mention "pay him asking price"?? You said he offered at a "great" price and then went on to say he lowered it even more. I don't see any "quandary" here. Pay his last asking price and sell the other and all are happy and you can sleep.

My neighbor has a spare 7000 in a shed. Let's us get anything we need. Sure is handy. I have made a one row from a 7000. Plants sweet corn almost perfect. Vic

is it a 4 row wide or a 4 row narrow?

If you have the only 7000 planter for sale in a 130 mile radius, I'd say you could make some money on the deal for the one in worse shape.

liquid or dry fert? no till or conventional?
