OT-2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT Question

Yesterday I picked up a real clean 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix
GT with 69,000 one owner miles..Its dirty in the picture
because our roads are a mess....I hunted for a month to
find one this nice and got it off Craigslist 60 miles away..

Anyways its almost perfect except someone stole the right
hand mirror glass and frame while the owner was recently
in Wal-mart..Does it just pop in or out of the white hole
thats pictured?

In checking ebay you can either buy just the mirror glass
alone or the complete mirror assembly for $36.00 which is
painted black...Has anyone popped one of these mirrors
out of this new assembly and just put it in the existing
mirror motor..I dont want to put a complete new mirror
assembly on as I will then have to have it painted the
correct color..

Can't say for sure on an '04, 'cause the last ones I worked on were late 90's Olds 88's.

The ones on the Olds looked a bit different than your photo, but those had 3 studs that popped into sockets on the motor. There's a good chance yours would do likewise.

That happened to my son's 04 Gran Prix. I found one on ebay. It fit perfectly. I also bought him a set of new headlights from the same ebay member. I highly recommend this buyer. Here is a list of mirrors they have now so maybe you can ask them about your mirror. Good luck.

A few years ago, I did the driver's side on my daughter's Monte Carlo. I believe I got a cheapie from Rock Auto. Everything went together great and it worked....except the directions of the switch had been wired wrong from the factory on the replacement mirror. When you wanted it to go up or down, it went left or right. When you wanted it to go left or right, it went up and down. She lived with it.

Getting the glass itself is no problem...Its the piece the glass glues to that hooks in to the motor..They took the complete assembly that goes in to the motor..

I'm wondering if an aftermarket assembly is the same and will come apart and I can use just the glass and the mounting piece to put in to my existing motor which works..I dont want to have to install a complete new mirror assembly as it will have to be painted..Theres nothing wrong with my outside housing..
