Deutz 7.10 transmission over haul

Just wondering if anyone can tell me how complicated it is to fix a transmission on a Deutz 7.10, 2nd gear and reverse are not working, and where to get parts

Hi
Parts will be from dealer and expensive it's an agco product now!. There is a dealer near me in Manitoba for them.
he was deutz years ago and they invited him back when agco Killed valtra in North america.
I don't think there is much jobber stuff, if any for that trans. I
have been in a DX120 trans once which is maybe
slightly different , at a dealership
shop getting used parts out for a job.
it was a bugger for big awkward snap rings and
stuff. They love to be set up right to on re
assembly. if not right you get problems.

As for ease I won't do them in my shop. But
had a guy ask me about a 7.10. I said no.
He was 82, and he got an old mechanic from town
he was about 76. They got the trans manual
copied from where the parts were going to be
ordered.
it was like 200 sheets of paper. The pair of
them stripped it down to bare castings and laid
it all down on a long bench in order. I went to
see it one day and just shock my head in
disbelief.
it took them from harvest to the next spring
on and off, but they did it. and he's now 86
the mechanic died last year.
That tractors still running it was in his yard
2 weeks ago when I was there fixing for him. my
friend did one last year he reconed the old guy
did good to from what he said.

So anythings possible if you want to spend the
time/ money and get it right. I kinda felt bad
after they did it. But if I messed up, the
hours came out of my pocket to fix it the
second time.

Deutz Fahr tractor are now part of the Italian
Same group. There are a few dealers around for
them but not sure what they do not have anything
to do with AGCO. Not sure what parts they supply
for Duetz tractors prior to SAME involvement which
started about 20 yrs ago.

Hi North American market side is owned by Agco has been since 1990 from what I just read, european might be slightly different still. seems they have agreements/shares with other parts of Deutz round the world to. there are so many buyouts share deals and such in Agco history it's unreal. I know we have to buy through Agco dealers in my area, so would assume the whole of North america is the same. We had Same/ lamborghini tractors here badged as Agco's products like white and others, saw 1 a couple months ago in my local dealers, and theres a few silver ones around to that look similar to european tractors like same 90 and 105 and newer ones.
After the Valtra fiasco here I won't be buying a new tractor of other brand from them in North America. It will be shipped from a dealer in the U.K if I need one either new or fairly new used.

(quoted from post at 22:37:53 12/06/14) Robert what was the Valtra fiasco about? Just curios, I haven't heard of that.
Hi
in the wisdom of agco management, and the fact they buy any other manufacturer to steel the best parts to build there own tractor or badge some Valtra's as Massey.
They bought out Valtra to get the rights to the Sisu motor for the MF due to cat having perkins, then the same with fendt to get the IVT trans they wanted for the big massey.

The Valtra has now been banished from the North american market. It has annoyed a lot of valued valtra customers, and in some areas destroyed the value of Valtra's. There has been rumor they might pull the plug on Fendt here for a while to.

In my area the Valtra price has been ok. but others lost $20.000 in a few weeks. My friends been buying cheap used immaculate low hour in the states for a while.
Basically if we talk to the Massey reps they tell us you got to buy a Massey. But as my buddy told them, Hows that working for you,I don't see many new Massey's around this province, they don't answer and change the subject. And also he says if i wanted Masseys I would have 4 of them not valtra's, again they change the subject. In truth they upset a lot of guys, won't sell them what they want and they go to another color.

Both are good tractors until they go wrong But I prefer The Valtra for my needs. There is still alot on it I can fix. Most of the newer massey is computer stuff and 0000's in test equipment I don't have.
Looks like your an MF man But we won't fight over it. You have your brand I have mine and agco just owns mine for the wrong reasons L.O.L.
Regards Robert

Thanks. Very interesting. Valtras are well reputated over here. Used ones are among the best priced along with Fendt and JD and only few for sale that have low hours on them. I wish I could afford one but I had to step down to a MF. :D

In 1980 I went to work for a small dealership whose only mechanic had quit leaving a Ford diesel engine for a New Holland combine and a Duetz tractor transmission completely disassembled. Having never worked on either one before I had a challenging couple of weeks to start with. I must have gotten most of it done right since I never heard any complaints from either job. I imagine the dealership didn't make any money on either job since I'm sure it took me longer than if I had done the total job on both of them.

Hi sounds like you had fun with those projects,
That combine motor must of been a 2700 series
from the U.K I would think. unless it was a
newer series.
From what i have been told with those
transmissions they like good bearings and
shimming correctly. The other key to it is if
it has done heavy field work. they wear the
splines off in the coupling between the gear
box and rear axle. Guys say to go right through
it and check everything while your there. The
reason being is your that far in. if that shaft
quits 3 weeks later your back again and
probably scrapping the tractor. in 2002 I was
told that shaft kit was something like $17.000
for a DX 120. Thats why I was pulling a used
one out, that infact was junk on removal. it
had twisted on the splines making everybody
think it was good before we tore it apart. That
shafts what happened to the 7.10 with my guy it
lost drive in the field and jumping out of gear
before that, but i know of a machine shop that did an update/ repair to it that saved a load of money. Not sure if they still do them though
