I know the frost depth!

About 8 inches already here in Central Michigan.

Tried to punch half a dozen post holes to repair the fence I had to take down for the construction project detailed in "ITS DONE" post below. Post hole drill just wouldn't penetrate. Even a small stone would stop all progress. Had to chop down thru the frost to unfrozen dirt to get it to dig. NO fun! Missing my indisposed Farmall 200. It had down pressure on the modified 2pt/3pt hitch. Massey Ferguson 180 doesn't. Is it winter already?

December 2. yesterday was 60* here in western Colorado.Had to open the door/window of the combine. unseasonably warm.I just plowed out a hay field last evening.

I have a post hole digger with a frost bit on a Bobcat. Works very well. Down pressure, reverse if needed. Ill never go back to a 3 point digger. Clean straight holes every time.

I chopped corn stalks on Sunday, and the field was real greasy. Froze last night , and I thought, bet I can go and plough today. WRONG!!! couldn't get the plough in the ground, from mud to rock over night. Supposed to warm up later this week, maybe try again this weekend. Bruce

Dug some ditches for Elec. line. Northside of sheds or trees about 3", other places none. East side of a mountain ridge from DeltaRed.

I plowed on thanksgiving, and then I tried to finish the headlands the next day. Where I ran down the snow it was froze solid and the plow would come out of the ground and scrape on by on top. Where I had plowed 2 weeks ago and then it warmed up again and snowed, it was fine. Lesson being finish the headlands the same day...

They combined the corn near my house Sunday night. They came right away with a ripper and worked it up so they could get it done.

Ah the advantages of having a hyd. drive skid steer mounted auger and a Bell Tech rock bits . Oh you want a hole thru this concrete floor not problem . Oh you want to run a fence and you say you have a rock ledge down a foot , not a problem . as we did thirty some post holes this past spring thru rock and it took around three to five min. a hole . Just add a little down pressure and make a hole .

Depth varies. A thick grass sod offers more insulation thatn a bare packed-hard driveway, clear of gravel. Concrete drive is diffferent too.

I pounded in a new 2" square mailbox post (steel) last week, 18 inches of frost before pounding got easier, took half an hour, and had to use sawzall and generator to cut off top 4" of post when I finished. Good workout for an old guy. Ice fishermen tell me there is almost a foot of ice on lakes around here already.

I hope its not winter yet Ray.

I have two more tree jobs to finish up this year. Calling for mid-high 30s through the weekend here on this side of the state. Looks like I better try to do them this weekend.
