Could someone explain the difference between the John Deere 7210 and 7410 series tractors? On TractorData it looks like the same engine, transmission, weight etc. thanks Lloyd
 
Injection pump setting and price/warranty costs.

There are several tractors in JD line up that are exactly the same just with different fuel settings.

A JD 4055 and JD 4255 are the same as well.
 
Jd,

I think that you will find the same thing with the 8000 series tractors also. The 8100 and the 8400 have most everything in common and vary only a small amount on the shipping weight. I think that is mostly the different equipped tires and the dip stick for the oil capacity is shorter in the larger models to give them more crankcase capacity.

Those 2 models aren't the same according to Tractordata & Nebraska tests. Some 4050's even had a 359 cid(5.9L) in lieu of a 466 cid(6076) engine

4050 QR 101.95 pto hp with a 466
4050 OR 105.89 pto hp with a 359
4255 OR 127.91 pto hp with 6076

Granted the weights are the same which could be a typo but the engine & pto hp's are different.

thanks, everyone for the comments, looks like a bigger pump / fuel delivery asks a lot more in dollars. It appears I can buy A 7210 for thousands less.
 
As others said, it's how tractors are built and marketed today.

Take a look at something like the test for the Massey 7618. It says right in the test report:

"The performance figures on this report are the result of replacing the electronic engine control module of the Massey Ferguson 7616 with the Massey Ferguson 7618 module".

They send one physical tractor to the test site and just swapped the control modules to test the performance of the entire series.
